According to the document: 1) LED lighting is being widely adopted in India, with plans to deploy 770 million LED bulbs and 35 million streetlights by 2019 to replace conventional lights for energy savings. 2) LED lighting uses less energy and provides longer lifespan than traditional incandescent bulbs. The installation of LED streetlights across India has already saved 295 million kWh of energy annually. 3) Emerging LED lighting technologies include smart connected lights, reduced component counts, improved lumen output using chip scale packaging, and driverless low voltage direct current systems to further reduce energy losses during conversion.

- 3. Introduction According to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) announcement, by 2019, 770 million LED bulbs and 35 million LED streetlights will be deployed to replace conventional lights. Over 2.1 million conventional streetlights have already been replaced with LED streetlights across the country, under the Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP). The installation of LED streetlights has resulted in annual energy savings of 295 million kWh and reduced carbon emissions by 2,30,000 million tonnes annually. The project has been implemented across 23 states and union territories. 3

- 7. 7 Most modern LED operate in a range of 2 to 4 volts and consume anywhere between 350mA and 1500mA. Power consumption of LED light bulb is only 10% of the standard light bulb. LED light bulbs withstand great amount of vibration, shock and temperature variations. LED light bulbs are 10-60 times more energy efficient than incandescent light bulbs. Incandescent light bulbs produce light that flickers whereas LED light bulbs produce flicker free light. LED bulbs can produce many rich and vibrant colors when compared to incandescent light bulbs. - 9. 9 Smart connected LED lights: Lighting systems will get smarter, as the possibility of autonomous, self-commissioning illumination systems is emerging. Changes in ‘on board technology’: This will also reduce the number of components compared to those used in traditional drivers. Use of fewer components can reduce costs while enhancing the efficiency of the final product. Use of Chip Scale Packaging (CSP) technology: This will enhance lumen output and also increase the reliability of the final product. Introduction of driverless low voltage direct current (LVDC) operated products: This will enable energy saving by reducing AC-DC current conversion losses. Emerging Technology Trends in LED
- 12. Conclusion Use of energy efficient lamps like LED, lead to enormous amount of energy savings which is estimated as 50 to 80%. The existing systems cannot be successfully applied to home and office buildings. Therefore, we propose an intelligent household LED lighting system considering energy efficiency and user satisfaction. The proposed system can be autonomously adjusted to the minimum light intensity value to enhance both energy efficiency and user satisfaction. 12
