MISCONCEPTION OF MARRIAGE • Pessimism • Product of ancient practices - God created marriage. • Unhappy - Most of people who stay married are “very happy” (61-62%). • Idealism • Perfect soul-mate - Marriage needs you to change. • Redemption (apocalyptic romance - Ernest Becker) - Only God can give it. 3

- 19. PRIORITY OF MARRIAGE • Marriage must come first • If your marriage is strong, even if all the circumstances in your life around you are filled with trouble and weakness, it won’t matter. You will be able to move out into the world in strength. 19

TIPS FOR THE UNMARRIED • Understand the gift of singleness. • Recognize that there are seasons for not seeking marriage. • Screen first for friendship - someone who understands you better than you do yourself, who makes you a better person just by being around them. And then explore whether that friendship could become a romance and a marriage. • F.A.T - Faithful, Able, and Teachable • Check whether you obsess over your partner’s external shortcomings, or you can see the beauty within and you want to see it increasingly released. • Get and submit to lots of community input. 20
- 21. TIPS FOR THE MARRIED • Don’t respond to feelings with facts. • It only takes one to begin healing. Always be the one. • Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the evil. (Eph 6:12) • Get and submit to lots of community input. • Enjoy the closest relationship you can get to the one in heaven. :-) 21
