Media Studies AS LevelFilm Evaluation: Obsession
With the title Obsessed, you can gather just from the title that this film has a dark theme about it, maybe about a stalker storyline. It also leaves the audience with some freedom to imagine something about the story or the meaning of the title. The setting/background of the film had to be of a equal darkness to the themes and plot of the film, so that it all blends together well and naturally. A naturally dark intro also gets the audience’s attention, as does the polar opposite by doing a very bright setting for an introduction. The costumes for the actors/actresses had to be natural to the types of characters that are being portrayed. In this case the characters being played were teenagers/young adults, so they had to be slightly baggy, hoody + jeans + trainers combination to suit the current day teenager. The suicide scene is very stereotypical of a thriller film, as it just adds to the mystery of the story and doesn’t reveal the anything for people to assume about the rest of the film.I showed that the logos were a independent company’s one as they didn’t have symbolised individual lettering, as many bigger companies do(FOX, Pixar, Marvel Studios).Evaluation Activity 1
This is Adam Catlin, Co-Producer and Co-Director of Obsessed. This slide will consist of what production company is and how my film “Obsessed” will be distributed.A production company is the main monetary support of a film and is also responsible for the development and the production of a film. For Obsessed, the companies involved will be independent companies, so it will have a small budget for all of the sections of a films monetary support: development, production, advertisement/marketing, hiring costs, and release costs. As this is a low budget, it will most likely be unveiled at a film festival like the famous Sundance Festival.Usually the actors/actresses and the director(s) will go after the producers in the credits nearer the title and film starting point, as they are the names the audience will and should remember.Major companies: Warner Bros, FOX, Disney, Pixar, Paramount, Universal.Smaller companies include Lionsgate and Spyglass. Evaluation Activity 2
Average age: 15-25Interests: Movies, TV, video games, cars/bikesHMV, GAME, Gamestation, Argos for DVDs/Blu-rays of TV shows and films. Also Internet shopping from Amazon or Play for most things due to them being younger and more comfortable with technology.Music: Rock(Punk, Nu Metal), Tech Music(Drum and Bass, Dance/Rave)Dislikes: Family/Kid based filmsMedia Consumption Habits Per Week: 30-35 hours TV(Action, Comedy) 3-4 Films watched(Action, Thriller, Horror, Comedy)5 hours of reading(novels, comics)These factors make them perfect to watch as they already watch the genre and enjoy it, they will enjoy the latter stages of the film(a car chase is planned), the humour they will get as it is darker and more aimed at their age group(not for children), and they will be able to see the film with comfort due to age certificate of 15(because of the dark tones, violence and language used and sexual references.Evaluation Activity 3 – Target Audience
Evaluation Activity 4
PC – the main type of business computer. Was used to write up the suicide note and the final script.Mac – used for the main editing phase. Has Garageband and iMovie on it, so is used to put the film together and cut out unnecessary parts of the introduction. Garageband used for the soundtrack of the film, bot the making of it and attaching it to the film.Camcorder – Used to record some parts of the film. Mainly for the parts outside as it will show less wind sound and have better quality for outside conditions.Flip Camera – Used for certain parts of the filming. Used inside as is easier to use inside and adds a shaky effect to the filming.Tripod – Very underrated part of the production. Keeps the camera connected to it steady while filming to add consistency and professionalism to the filming.Evaluation Activity 5
Since the preliminary filming and production, I feel like I have gotten more confident with recording process of the production, learning the importance of different kinds of angles and recording. I feel also like I have gotten a lot better with the editing software located on the Macs, especially the Garageband software as I did compose the soundtrack for the film introduction scene and felt it went well with it.Evaluation Activity 6
