Introduction
 Microsoft HoloLens is a smart glass which is the first cordless, self-contained
holographic computer running on Windows 10.
What is a Hologram?
 A hologram is an object like any other object in the real world, with only one
difference: instead of being made of physical matter, a hologram is made entirely of
light.
 Holographic objects can be viewed from different angles and distances, just like
physical objects.
 Hologram do not offer any physical resistance when touched or pushed because they
don’t have any mass.
 A hologram is a physical structure that diffracts light into image.
What is Microsoft HoloLens?
 Microsoft HoloLens is the first holographic computer, Powered by Windows 10.
 It is completely unattached ( no wires, phones, or connection to a PC needed).
 Microsoft HoloLens is the fully untethered holographic computer ,enabling high
definition holograms to integrate with your world.
 Microsoft HoloLens Place holograms in your locations you choose and your
digital content will feel more real than ever before.
 Microsoft HoloLens is made up of specialized components that together enable
Holographic Computing.
 Microsoft HoloLens uses Augmented Reality (AR) Technology that allows it to
pin Hologram in your physical environment.
What is Augmented Reality?
 It is an extra dimension over VR since it can show the real world around
wearer with graphic overlaid.
 AR can also totally immerse user just like VR by simply showing pixels
everywhere with transparency to the real world.
 Augmented Reality is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world
environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-
generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data.
Inside the HoloLens
 1.Camera
 2.Computer
 3.Lenses
 4.Vent
 5.Sensor
 6.Buttons
 Computer:- HoloLens is not just a visor connected to a computer, it is a
computer on its own. HoloLens contain CPU, battery, GPU and first of its kind
HPU (holographic processing unit). 18 sensors flood the brain of the device
with terabyte of data every seconds.
 Camera:- The project HoloLens depth camera has a field of vision that spans
120 by 120 degree, so it can sense what your hands are doing even when they
are nearly outstretched.
 Sensor:- Sensor track where the wearer is looking and adjust the display.
Motion sensor detect wearers movement.
The sensor can also see wearers hands, the hands are an Input system.
User can interact with whatever he sees by just touching it.
Wearer also give gesture as input sensor enables the tracking of user
movement.
 Vent:- The device is more powerful than a laptop but won’t overheat- warm air
flows to the sides, where it vents up and out.
 Buttons:- On the right side buttons allow user to adjust the volume and to control
the contrast of the hologram.
How it works?
 Microsoft HoloLens has User Interface so it takes voice , gaze and gestures as
input command.
 Now projection of hologram, for projection HoloLens use the HUE (Head Up
Display) method two Nano projector located at each side of head and semi
transparent visor which reflect the image as light on users eye.
User Interface
• Gestures
• Voice
• Gaze
 Lenses and Display:- Microsoft HoloLens has two display. they are transparent
so that wearer can see the real world behind virtual object.
 To create project HoloLens image, light particles bounce around millions of
times in the so called light engine of the device.
 Microsoft HoloLens features see-through, holographic, high-definition lenses
and spatial sound so you can see and hear holograms in the world around you.
 The goggles will track your movements, watch your gaze and transform what
you see by blasting light at your eyes.
 Windows 10 is the first platform to support Holographic Computing with APIs
that enable gaze, gesture, voice and environmental understanding on an
untethered device like HoloLens.
Features
• Microsoft HoloLens brings high-
definition holograms to life in your
world, where they integrate with your
physical places, spaces, and things.
• Your digital content and creations will
be more relevant when they come to
life in the world around you.
New ways to Teach and Learn
 It’s easier to show than to tell, so do both. With Microsoft HoloLens, friends
and colleagues can help you with difficult tasks using HoloNotes in Skype.
Design & Develops
 As holograms, your digital content will be as real as physical objects in the
room.
 For the first time, holograms will become practical tools of daily life.
New ways to Create what you Imagine
 Use holograms to visualize how something will look in the physical world
whether it’s a new piece of furniture in your home, a toy for your kids, or a
new creation for work.
Advantages of Microsoft HoloLens
 Easy to wear and use.
 Sensitive and responsive to the presence of people.
 HoloLens can be used in army battlefield, where detailed instruction can be
given to the untrained person in the midst of combat.
 A useful technology for a Designing & Futuristic Innovations.
 A spectacle based computer to reside directly on your eyes rather than your
pocket.
Disadvantages of Microsoft
oloLens
 Can be easily damaged or broken.
 User will have a tough time taking care of it.
 It may lead to accident while driving.
 Privacy of people may break due to new glasses.
Conclusion
 Holographic computing experiences with Microsoft HoloLens are different from
existing experiences, such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).
 HoloLens looks incredibly exciting, but what we've seen so far is a glimpse into
the future.
 Holographic computing experiences with Microsoft HoloLens is different from
existing technologies. It is more rich, more responsive and more capable.
 Microsoft HoloLens is capable of creating beyond your Imagination.
