Institutional Digital Learning Resources
Definition
• An IDLR is an archive for collecting, preserving, and
disseminating digital copies of the intellectual output as
well as digital learning resources of an institution.
• These are collection of institutional specific resources,
contributed by institution, faculties, students and library.
• These can support research, learning and administrative
process.

Institutional Digital Learning Resources
Definition cont...
• Academics also utilize their IDLR for archiving
published works to increase their visibility and
collaboration with other academics.
• These promote open access movement and self
archiving.

Institutional Learning Repository
Self archiving
• Self archiving is the act of (the author’s) depositing a
free copy of an electronic document online in order to
provide open access to it.
• The term usually refers to self archiving of peer-
reviewed research articles and conference articles, as well
as book chapters, deposited in the author’s own
institutional repository or open archive for the purpose
of maximizing its accessibility, usage and citation impact.

Gold Open Access
04/27/25 27
Paper presented by Dr. Santosh Kumar Tunga, Librarian (Associate Professor Scale), RBC Evening
College Naihati, Nort 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India
Gold Open Access
• Article Processing Charges (APCs): Authors or Institutions may
need to pay fees to make their APCs to make their articles open
access
• Copyright & CC Licensing: Gold OA articles are often
published under CC licenses, allowing for reuse and
redistribution
• Quality and Peer-review: Maintain rigorous peer-review
standards to ensure quality research.
• Peer-review /Editorial review →APC → Open Access
04/27/25 28
Paper presented by Dr. Santosh Kumar Tunga, Librarian (Associate Professor Scale), RBC Evening
College Naihati, Nort 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India
Green Open Access
• Green OA is also known as self-archiving, refers to
making works published with a publisher or in
journal available to the public in a repository.
• It is sometimes understood to refer also to making
such works available on the author’s personal website.
• Open access →Repository →Preprint →Post-print
→ Self-archiving.
04/27/25 29

Diamond Open Access
• Many open access journals function without APCs- that
is, no cost arise for authors, but rather the journals in
financed from Institutional funds, by funding agencies
e.g. DOAJ, SciELO, Open Library of Humanities.
• No APCs/No author fees
• Institutional subsidies/Funding agencies
• Membership fees paid by member institutions
• Voluntary work
• Open licensing;
• Quality peer-review;

Creative Commons (CC)
• CC is alternative approach for creators who want to
share their work with others
• All CC licenses ensure that creators retain their
copyright and get credit for their work, while still
permitting others to copy and distribute.
• Copyright operates by default under an “all right
reserved” approach. CC licenses function within
copyright law, but they utilize a “some rights
reserved” approach.

Types of Creative
Commons Licenses cont…
• CC BY-NC-SA: Attribution-Non-Commercial-Share
Alike — A combination of CC BY-NC and CC BY-SA.
• CC BY-NC-ND: Attribution-Non-Commercial-No
Derivatives —The most restrictive of the identities,
allowing only downloading and sharing as long as

Creative Commons License
(CCL) Vs. Copyright
CCL
• Main Objective of CCL is to
encourage sharing, collaboration,
and the reuse of creative works,
while allowing creators to retain
certain rights.
• Duration of CCL is based on the
underlying copyright. If a work is
under copyright for 60 years, the
CC applied to that work will also
last 60 years.
Copyright
• Main objective of Copyrights to
provide copyright protection for
creators against unauthorized use,
ensuring they can control how their
work is distributed and used.
• Copyright term lasts for the life of
the creator plus 60 years, though this
can very depending on the
jurisdiction and type of work.
04/27/25 51
Paper presented by Dr. Santosh Kumar Tunga, Librarian (Associate Professor Scale), RBC Evening
College Naihati, Nort 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India
Creative Commons License
(CCL) Vs. Copyright
CCL
• CCL is Opt-in. Creators choose to apply a
Creative Commons identity to their work.
• CCL: Can vary based on the specific identity
chosen. The identities range from allowing
almost any type of use as long as attribution
is given, to more restrictive licenses that
might prohibit commercial use or
derivative works.
Copyright
• Copyright is Automatic. It comes
into effect as soon as an original
work is created and fixed in a
tangible medium, with no formal
copyright registration required in
most countries.
• Copyright: Grants exclusive rights
to reproduce, distribute, perform,
display, or identity the work, and
others cannot do these without the
copyright owner’s permission.
