Kafka Tutorial - Introduction to Apache Kafka (Part 1)Jean-Paul Azar
Why is Kafka so fast? Why is Kafka so popular? Why Kafka? This slide deck is a tutorial for the Kafka streaming platform. This slide deck covers Kafka Architecture with some small examples from the command line. Then we expand on this with a multi-server example to demonstrate failover of brokers as well as consumers. Then it goes through some simple Java client examples for a Kafka Producer and a Kafka Consumer. We have also expanded on the Kafka design section and added references. The tutorial covers Avro and the Schema Registry as well as advance Kafka Producers.
Lambda architecture is a popular technique where records are processed by a batch system and streaming system in parallel. The results are then combined during query time to provide a complete answer. Strict latency requirements to process old and recently generated events made this architecture popular. The key downside to this architecture is the development and operational overhead of managing two different systems.
There have been attempts to unify batch and streaming into a single system in the past. Organizations have not been that successful though in those attempts. But, with the advent of Delta Lake, we are seeing lot of engineers adopting a simple continuous data flow model to process data as it arrives. We call this architecture, The Delta Architecture.
The document discusses migrating a data warehouse to the Databricks Lakehouse Platform. It outlines why legacy data warehouses are struggling, how the Databricks Platform addresses these issues, and key considerations for modern analytics and data warehousing. The document then provides an overview of the migration methodology, approach, strategies, and key takeaways for moving to a lakehouse on Databricks.
As part of this presentation we covered basics of Terraform which is Infrastructure as code. It will helps to Devops teams to start with Terraform.
This document will be helpful for the development who wants to understand infrastructure as code concepts and if they want to understand the usability of terrform
The document provides an introduction to the ELK stack, which is a collection of three open source products: Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana. It describes each component, including that Elasticsearch is a search and analytics engine, Logstash is used to collect, parse, and store logs, and Kibana is used to visualize data with charts and graphs. It also provides examples of how each component works together in processing and analyzing log data.
Kafka is becoming an ever more popular choice for users to help enable fast data and Streaming. Kafka provides a wide landscape of configuration to allow you to tweak its performance profile. Understanding the internals of Kafka is critical for picking your ideal configuration. Depending on your use case and data needs, different settings will perform very differently. Lets walk through performance essentials of Kafka. Let's talk about how your Consumer configuration, can speed up or slow down the flow of messages to Brokers. Lets talk about message keys, their implications and their impact on partition performance. Lets talk about how to figure out how many partitions and how many Brokers you should have. Let's discuss consumers and what effects their performance. How do you combine all of these choices and develop the best strategy moving forward? How do you test performance of Kafka? I will attempt a live demo with the help of Zeppelin to show in real time how to tune for performance.

Insights into Real-world Data Management ChallengesDataWorks Summit
Oracle began with the belief that the foundation of IT was managing information. The Oracle Cloud Platform for Big Data is a natural extension of our belief in the power of data. Oracle’s Integrated Cloud is one cloud for the entire business, meeting everyone’s needs. It’s about Connecting people to information through tools which help you combine and aggregate data from any source.
This session will explore how organizations can transition to the cloud by delivering fully managed and elastic Hadoop and Real-time Streaming cloud services to built robust offerings that provide measurable value to the business. We will explore key data management trends and dive deeper into pain points we are hearing about from our customer base.
The document discusses Oracle's database cloud deployment options. It describes Oracle Autonomous Database which fully automates database management. It can be deployed in Oracle public clouds, dedicated regions, or on-premises. The document also discusses Exadata Cloud services which provide high-performance databases in Oracle data centers or customer data centers. A variety of deployment options are presented that balance control, costs and support for hybrid cloud strategies.
The document discusses embedding machine learning in business processes using the example of baking cakes. It notes that while bakers follow exact recipes and processes, the results are not always perfect due to various factors. It then discusses how manufacturers are "data rich but information poor" as they cannot derive meaningful insights from their operational data. The document advocates generating "actionable intelligence" through deep analysis of production data to determine the root causes of issues like cracked cakes, rather than just reporting what problems occurred. This would help manufacturers diagnose and address process flaws more precisely.
