XPDDS17: Keynote: Shared Coprocessor Framework on ARM - Oleksandr Andrushchen...The Linux Foundation
With the grown interest in virtualization from big players around the world there are more and more companies choose ARM SoCs as their target platform for running server environments. It is also known that majority of such SoCs come with broad coprocessors available on the die, e.g. GPU, DSP, security etc. But at the moment the only way to speed up guests with these is either using a para-virtualized approach or making that HW dedicated to a specific guest.
Shared coprocessor framework for Xen aims to allow all guest OSes to benefit from this companion HW with ease while running unmodified software and/or firmware on guest side. You don’t need to worry about setting up IO ranges, interrupts, scheduling etc.: it is all covered, making support of new shared HW way faster.
As an example of the shared coprocessor framework usage a virtualized GPU will be shown.
This Presentation teach you about the Journey of ARM Processors.

ARM Processors
1) Architecture:
Arm CPU architecture is a set of specifications that allows developers to write software and firmware that will behave in a consistent way on all Arm-based processors. This type of portability and compatibility is the foundation of the Arm ecosystems.
2) ARM ARCH Version Changes
ARM architecture starts from arm-v1 till arm-v8 below slide we only captured the changes from arm-v5 till arm-v8.
Architecture and micro-architecture
Architecture does not tell you how a processor is built and actually works. The build and design of a processor is referred to as micro-architecture. Micro-architecture tells you how a particular processor works.
Micro-architecture includes things like:
Pipeline length and layout.
Number and sizes of caches.
Cycle counts for individual instructions.
Which optional features are implemented.
For example, Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A72 are both implementations of the Armv8-A architecture. This means that they have the same architecture, but they have very different micro-architectures.

Software Defined Substation Intelligence, Automation and ControlBastian Fischer
The Intelligent Digital Substation - Future Proof by Design
A combination of societal, technological, and environmental factors are transforming the energy industry in-depth. The continuous increase of renewable and intermittent energy sources; the necessity to improve grid reliability and power quality; and regulatory pressure to reduce operating expenditures on grid assets require investments today while being future proof for decades to come.
Electrical grids are evolving in complexity, in structure and in function to enable the bi-directional flow of energy, of information and transactions. The integration of distributed, intermittent energy resources require constant network balancing, real-time adjustments of supply and demand, dynamic asset rating, dynamic protection schemes, advanced automation and is only possible with a new substation platform.
Electrical substations are the critical nodes of this grid evolution and hence in order to make the grid digital and intelligent we need first to make substations digital and intelligent. SASensor is architected along the Centralized Protection and Control principles and provides already today the benefits of a data driven and software defined implementation. This is making your investments future proof as functions can merely be applied by software upgrades during the entire life cycle of the substation.
SASensor is a substation platform transforming your substations into intelligent hubs providing a new level of functionalities, applications and performance, a new level of situational awareness and high resolution real-time data providing insight into operation, diagnostics and asset conditions.
SASensor is providing a large set of protection, automation, communication and measurement functionalities based on a high availability redundant computing platform with efficient remote software-, data-, user- and configuration management along with resilient cyber-security features.

Join Christoph and Marc as they demonstrate how to simplify the troubleshooting process in HCL Nomad Web, ensuring a smoother and more efficient user experience.
In this webinar, we will explore effective strategies for diagnosing and resolving common problems in HCL Nomad Web, including
- Accessing the console
- Locating and interpreting log files
- Accessing the data folder within the browser’s cache (using OPFS)
- Understand the difference between single- and multi-user scenarios
- Utilizing Client Clocking

Designing Low-Latency Systems with Rust and ScyllaDB: An Architectural Deep DiveScyllaDB
Want to learn practical tips for designing systems that can scale efficiently without compromising speed?
Join us for a workshop where we’ll address these challenges head-on and explore how to architect low-latency systems using Rust. During this free interactive workshop oriented for developers, engineers, and architects, we’ll cover how Rust’s unique language features and the Tokio async runtime enable high-performance application development.
As you explore key principles of designing low-latency systems with Rust, you will learn how to:
- Create and compile a real-world app with Rust
- Connect the application to ScyllaDB (NoSQL data store)
- Negotiate tradeoffs related to data modeling and querying
- Manage and monitor the database for consistently low latencies

Explore delta-rs + CDC and how these open-source innovations power lightweight, high-performance data applications beyond Spark! 🚀
Artificial Intelligence is providing benefits in many areas of work within the heritage sector, from image analysis, to ideas generation, and new research tools. However, it is more critical than ever for people, with analogue intelligence, to ensure the integrity and ethical use of AI. Including real people can improve the use of AI by identifying potential biases, cross-checking results, refining workflows, and providing contextual relevance to AI-driven results.
News about the impact of AI often paints a rosy picture. In practice, there are many potential pitfalls. This presentation discusses these issues and looks at the role of analogue intelligence and analogue interfaces in providing the best results to our audiences. How do we deal with factually incorrect results? How do we get content generated that better reflects the diversity of our communities? What roles are there for physical, in-person experiences in the digital world?

x86 Single Board vs Modular Approach
4. Changing Market Landscape
•Increased application specific embedded computing tasks
•Shorter product cycles
•Faster time to market critical
•Growing popularity of ARM SoC platforms
5. Embedded ARM Solutions:
•Open standard developed by Q7 Consortium
•7 x 7cm or 7 x 5cm modules + carrierboard
•Non-standardized auxiliary connector
•Open standard developed by SGETConsortium
•8.2 x 5cm or 8.2 x 8cm modules + carrier board
•Standardized Alternate FunctionalBlock (Auxiliary connector on Q7)
Carrier Board presents high-level of integration challenges A Modular Approach
6. •10 x 7.2cm Pico-ITX form factor
•Provides almost all connectivity required by embedded applications onboard
•Extension cards allow for customers to quickly customize I/O ports
VIA Approach: Single Board Pico-ITX
•BSP fully optimized to take advantageof all the acceleration provided bythe main SoC allowing customers tofocus on their “Real Time HWDomain”
No carrier board required
7. Modular Approach
•In order to take advantage of multi- vendor offerings of Q7 or SMARC modules, carrier board must be designed considering only the minimum features forced by the standard.
•Often requires resources by customer and module vendor to integrate a new Q7/SMARC module into an existing carrier board.
