PLASTIC REUSABILITY
REUSE PLASTIC BOTTLES AND SAVE THE EARTH
WHY WE NEED RECYCLING?
• It will help us to save our planet.
• Recycling reduces the burden of the
environment
• Recycling reduces the amount of
waste
• Recycling saves money.
WHY WE NEED PLASTICS?
• Plastic is widely used everywhere these
days.
• From households to supermarkets, plastic
is found everywhere.
• People use plastic because it is convenient
to use and inexpensive.
LEO HENDRICK
BAEKELAND
U.S industrial chemist who
found the modern plastics
industry through his
invention of Bakelite.
HOW IS PLASTIC MADE?
COAL NATURAL GAS CRUDE OIL
Plastic consumption
50% of all plastic produced is for single
– use purposes – used for just minutes
and then thrown away.
PLASTIC RECYCLING
• The process of plastic recycling is a little
bit complex.
• They have to sort out the different types of
plastics.
• As there is a diverse variety of plastic
with different properties.
PROCESS IN
RECYCLING
• The contents of your bins are
taken to a recycling centre.
• They separate by material type.
• The wastes are cleaned, processed
and repelletized.
• New products are made using
recycled material.
PLASTIC WASTE
• Today we produce about 300 million
tones of plastic waste every year.
• India’s plastic waste generation has more
than doubled in the last five years.
• In financial year 2019, Maharastra
generated the largest amount of plastic
waste in India at 410,000 metric tones.
PLASTIC WASTE RECYCLED
● About 25,000 plastics are generated every
day in India , of that only 60 % is
recycled.
● Approximately, 6 million tones of plastics
goes recycled every year in India.
PLASTIC IN THE OCEAN
• 10 million tones of plastics are
dumped in our ocean annually.
• 1 million marine animals are
killed by plastic pollution every
year.
• There will be more plastic in our
oceans than fish by 2050.
PLASTICS IN LANDFILLS
● 20% are taken to the landfills.
● Some of the plastics are burnt.
● Due to this, methane and carbon dioxide
is produced and cause pollution.
PROPERTIES
• Less weight
• Molded into any shape
• Inexpensive
• stronger
ALTERNATIVES FOR PLASTICS
when we use the paper bag it will
destroy the many trees.
Cloth bags would be a better
alternative for plastics.
