Effectively Plan for Your Move to the CloudPrecisely
Many companies using Power Systems running IBM i are looking to more some or all of their workloads to the cloud. Whether the motivation is to optimize their spending or allow for a more flexible consumption model, the cloud can provide unique opportunities to optimize their IBM i environment.
IBM Power Systems Virtual Server is one way to get the benefits of hybrid cloud, maintain the high performance of IBM Power Systems while modernizing at your pace and price point, on and off premises.
As companies move to a cloud environment, they need to consider the challenges of migrating their workload. Migrations always require detailed, coordinated planning and flawless execution. This is especially true today when downtime of any duration is completely unacceptable. So, above all other considerations, maintaining continuous uptime throughout the process is absolutely mandatory.
Watch this on-demand webinar to hear about:
• Benefits of a hybrid cloud approach for IBM i
• Ways the IBM Power VS can add value to your IBM i environment
• How to effectively scope and execute a migration to the cloud.
The document discusses building a cloud practice using infrastructure as a service (IaaS). It provides an overview of components of IaaS including compute, storage, networking and costs. It discusses strategies for reselling versus bringing your own license and professional services around cloud. The document also discusses choosing the right IaaS partner and highlights benefits of partnering with SoftLayer including their global footprint, server options, and differentiators compared to other providers. Finally, it discusses perspectives on building a successful cloud practice and business from an organizational and financial standpoint.
Organizations are looking to cloud computing solutions to improve the flexibility of their IT. But in today’s marketplace you still need to control operating expense, improve performance and maintain reliability. You need a cloud infrastructure solution that can help you manage costs and risk.
As information technology evolves, your data center faces a range of pressures from growing complexity. Energy usage and costs are rising; keeping your systems reliable is becoming more difficult; managing the whole system is time-consuming and expensive. You need your IT environment to be simple to manage, responsive to changing needs and cost effective.
This document discusses optimizing IT infrastructure through consolidation and virtualization. It provides three key points:
1) An integrated system of multiple architectures can optimize workload deployment and reduce operational overhead through centralized management and administration. This can lower costs by up to 80% for areas like power, facilities, labor, and software licenses.
2) The zEnterprise platform lowers acquisition costs by up to 56% and reduces ownership costs by up to 55% by helping to simplify the data center and establish an efficient foundation.
3) Virtualization technologies like z/VM allow workloads to efficiently utilize system resources and improve productivity by dynamically allocating CPUs, memory, and other hardware as needed.

IBM Softlayer ile bulutta 3. Boyut Bora Taşer IBMWebrazzi
The document discusses IBM's cloud computing services and SoftLayer platform. It provides the following key points:
1) IBM has made large investments in cloud capabilities through acquisitions and building its own datacenters, and cloud revenue and market opportunity are growing significantly.
2) SoftLayer offers infrastructure choices including bare metal servers, virtual servers, and private clouds across its global datacenter platform, along with network and security services.
3) IBM's cloud strategy includes infrastructure, platform, and software as a service offerings that can help businesses transform through the cloud.
IBM is a leading contributor to the OpenStack project. It has over 450 employees actively contributing to OpenStack, with 22 core contributors and 124 technical contributors for the Kilo release. Key contributions include federated identity, block volume replication, dashboard enhancements, and quality assurance testing. IBM uses OpenStack as the foundation for its hybrid cloud computing strategy and offerings.
Cloud computing allows organizations to access computing resources on an elastic, pay-per-use basis rather than investing in their own IT infrastructure. Adopting cloud computing can improve efficiency by providing the exact capacity needed, reducing unused capacity from 85% to as low as 15%, and lowering costs such as support costs by 60% and IT labor costs by 50%. IBM can help organizations implement private or community clouds to realize these benefits through optimized infrastructure and pay-for-use pricing models.

Would you buy a plane to fly to a few places in the coming year? In the same way, why would you invest in a traditional IT model when you could be running a flexible, fully-integrated cloud infrastructure?
Your company’s computing capacity is only as valuable as it is efficient and cost effective. Its ultimate value is whether or not it enables your business to do more with less.

AI Changes Everything – Talk at Cardiff Metropolitan University, 29th April 2...Alan Dix

Is AI just another technology, or does it fundamentally change the way we live and think?
Every technology has a direct impact with micro-ethical consequences, some good, some bad. However more profound are the ways in which some technologies reshape the very fabric of society with macro-ethical impacts. The invention of the stirrup revolutionised mounted combat, but as a side effect gave rise to the feudal system, which still shapes politics today. The internal combustion engine offers personal freedom and creates pollution, but has also transformed the nature of urban planning and international trade. When we look at AI the micro-ethical issues, such as bias, are most obvious, but the macro-ethical challenges may be greater.
At a micro-ethical level AI has the potential to deepen social, ethnic and gender bias, issues I have warned about since the early 1990s! It is also being used increasingly on the battlefield. However, it also offers amazing opportunities in health and educations, as the recent Nobel prizes for the developers of AlphaFold illustrate. More radically, the need to encode ethics acts as a mirror to surface essential ethical problems and conflicts.
At the macro-ethical level, by the early 2000s digital technology had already begun to undermine sovereignty (e.g. gambling), market economics (through network effects and emergent monopolies), and the very meaning of money. Modern AI is the child of big data, big computation and ultimately big business, intensifying the inherent tendency of digital technology to concentrate power. AI is already unravelling the fundamentals of the social, political and economic world around us, but this is a world that needs radical reimagining to overcome the global environmental and human challenges that confront us. Our challenge is whether to let the threads fall as they may, or to use them to weave a better future.

DevOpsDays Atlanta 2025 - Building 10x Development Organizations.pptxJustin Reock
Building 10x Organizations with Modern Productivity Metrics
10x developers may be a myth, but 10x organizations are very real, as proven by the influential study performed in the 1980s, ‘The Coding War Games.’
Right now, here in early 2025, we seem to be experiencing YAPP (Yet Another Productivity Philosophy), and that philosophy is converging on developer experience. It seems that with every new method we invent for the delivery of products, whether physical or virtual, we reinvent productivity philosophies to go alongside them.
But which of these approaches actually work? DORA? SPACE? DevEx? What should we invest in and create urgency behind today, so that we don’t find ourselves having the same discussion again in a decade?

Artificial Intelligence is providing benefits in many areas of work within the heritage sector, from image analysis, to ideas generation, and new research tools. However, it is more critical than ever for people, with analogue intelligence, to ensure the integrity and ethical use of AI. Including real people can improve the use of AI by identifying potential biases, cross-checking results, refining workflows, and providing contextual relevance to AI-driven results.
News about the impact of AI often paints a rosy picture. In practice, there are many potential pitfalls. This presentation discusses these issues and looks at the role of analogue intelligence and analogue interfaces in providing the best results to our audiences. How do we deal with factually incorrect results? How do we get content generated that better reflects the diversity of our communities? What roles are there for physical, in-person experiences in the digital world?
