P2P Container Image Distribution on IPFS With containerd and nerdctlKohei Tokunaga

Talked at FOSDEM 2022 about IPFS-based P2P image distribution with containerd and nerdctl (Feburary 6, 2022). https://fosdem.org/2022/schedule/event/container_ipfs_image/ nerdctl is a Docker-compatible CLI of containerd, developed as a subproject of containerd. nerdctl recently added support of P2P image distribution on IPFS. This enables to share container images among hosts without hosting or relying on the registry. In this session, Kohei, one of the maintainers of nerdctl, will introduce IPFS-based P2P image distribution with containerd and nerdctl. This session will also show the combination of IPFS-based distribution with the existing image distribution techniques, focusing on lazy pulling (eStargz) and image encryption (OCIcrypt). The status of integration work with other tools including Kubernetes will also be shared. As robotics platform and Robotics Operating System (ROS) getting matured, there is a requirement to handle the distributed system integration. Using Kubernetes on edge cluster system, there are a lot of advantages such as application lifecycle, deployment and recovery. Also using CNI and ROS Data Distributed System, it can construct distributed system on edge cluster, so that multiple robots can connect directedly and work collaboratively for the specific task. We will share how we can use Kubernetes on edge including deployment robotics application and possible problems based on our experience. Furthermore, we will share our approach to support edge dependent platform with device-plugin to attach hardware resources and even virtual devices which access to the host system such as 3rd party application.

On January 11, 2018, Sony Corporation released aibo (https://aibo.sony.jp/). aibo that is back on market beyond the time of 12 years constructed via robotics framework named ROS. In this presentation, we introduce examples of development in aibo from the point of view of ROS, starting with introduction of aibo, architecture, embedded technology, real-time optimization, robot development environment, simulation etc.

Eclipse Iceoryx OverviewTomoya Fujita

Iceoryx is an open-source middleware developed by Eclipse that provides real-time data transport capabilities. It can be used as an alternative to ROS2's Fast-RTPS and Connext middleware implementations. Iceoryx uses shared memory and message queues for high-performance data transport between processes. However, it currently has some limitations including single point of failure if the central RouDi daemon crashes, fixed memory mapping, and lack of support for request/response calls and quality of service features.
