Reflective practice is an important tool, as people learn from their own professional
experiences (Pascal and Brown, 2009). Reflection provides opportunity for furthering
personal and professional development (Nganga, 2011). As it helps to certify
knowledge skills and experience that is used within practice (Freire, 1972).
Boud, Keogh and Walker (1985) states that, looking through past and present
experiences helps with progression in the future. The reflection on practice is finding
the weaknesses and overcoming them (Dyer and Taylor, 2012).
Johns (2000) situates that a number of models can help to structure a reflection. As
they provide a framework that helps develop a deeper understanding and analysis.
One reflective model is SchГ¶n (2002) the model of reflection in action and
reflection on action. This model is beneficial to use as it involves working on
getting to the bottom of what is happening in the experience process, such as; the
decisions made and the feelings felt at that time of the event. Reflection on action
involves looking over the event and drawing on professional knowledge to
understand what happened and why it happened and to develop deeper knowledge
(Thompson and Pascal, 2012). However, this is not the only model that could be
used. Other models such as Kolb (1984), Gibbs (1988) and Brookfield (1995) have
different frameworks to help breakdown an issue.
I like to use SchГ¶n (2002) model in the workplace as I am thinking about what I
am doing as I am doing it. This does not provide a lot of time to think in depth and to
break the event down, leading to not gaining a better understanding of what
happened, without this I have no targets to better my professional development.

Dog is Man s Best Friend The image that I chose was a photograph taken by a
woman named Elena Shunilova. The photo was taken of her child and their family
dog. To me, this image is beautiful. In the center, there is a young boy kneeling
down next to a very large dog. It appears to be just transition to winter from autumn.
The ground is still brown but snow is faintly falling around the boy and dog. The
young boy is wearing a navy blue snow outfit with tan fur accents around the hood
and in a ball on top of his hat. His eyes are closed as he is embracing the large dog
sitting next to him. It seems to be cold out based on his rosy red cheeks against his
very pale skin. The dog stands tall and appears to be older than the boy by the
matting in the cream colored fur on his chest. He is black around the jowls as well
as his eyes and ears. If the boy were to stand tall next to him, he would barely be
taller. The dog s eyes are also closed and his front legs are in a wide stance. The
bottom and top of the image are slightly blurred, and very dull in color. It appears
to be a very cloudy day. The image itself as well as the setting is enough to raise
curiosity in the story behind this photograph. There are some aspects of this image
that really stood out to me. Typically, when you introduce children to large dogs, or

Beginning with the conversion of the Irish Celts around the fifth century,
Christianity began to spread across the British Isles. Around 630, an envoy of
monks was sent from a monastery on the Scottish Isle of Iona to a small
Northumbrian island (only about 4 square kilometers at high tide) situated in the
North Sea of the Atlantic. An Irish monk, Saint Aidan, established a monastery on
that small spit of land that would come to be called Lindisfarne, or simply Holy
Island. Together with the monastery at Iona, Lindisfarne became an integral part of
artistic creation in early medieval northern Europe (Kleiner 288), and from it s
workshop would emerge a new style of artwork that wove elements of pre existing
artistic styles of the British Isles, such as those of the Celts and the Anglo Saxons,
with unfamiliar Christian imagery imported from Near East to create the Hiberno
Saxon, or Insular style. This style would be employed by the monks at Lindisfarne to
create one of the most splendid texts of early medieval Brittania, the eponymous
Lindisfarne Gospels. A wondrous illuminated manuscriptworthy of its acclaim, these
Gospels are a quintessential example of Hiberno Saxon style, and its pages and
iconography we can glean a look at the historical context of the book, as well as the
