Thomas Bangalter and Homem Christo first met at school in 1987, and after
recording a few demo records they decided to form a guitar-based band called
Darlin’ with Laurent Brancowitz. While Bangalter and Christo played guitar and
bass, Brancowitz was brought on as an additional guitarist. An early negative
review of their work in the Melody Maker dismissed the music as “a bunch of X
Y.” As the band Darlin’ disbanded, Bangalter and Christo began experimenting
with drum machines and synthesisers, and began producing under the name X
Y.

On 31st October, 1984, India took on Pakistan in the second ODI of the series at Sialkot.
It was the great Sunil Gavaskar's last tour of Pakistan, however, he missed this match
due to injury. Tempers had already flared on the tour, after Gavaskar had accused
umpires of being impartial to Pakistan in the Test series. The ODIs in this series were 40
overs each - India chose to bat first and scored 210-3, with Dilip Vengsarkar scoring 94*.
However, at the innings break, the match was called off. The crowd were told to go
home, that they wouldn't get to watch the home team bat, and they would also not get
a refund. Yet, the 25,000-strong crowd surprisingly, gave a rousing reception to the
news - to raucous clapping.

In 1985, ______ Wars in Space commenced. X and Y, two rival brands, pledged to send
their products into space - to see how they would fare. X was first, spending roughly
$250,000 to make alterations to their product to make it conducive for no-gravity
conditions. After much deliberation, NASA agreed to put the product on the space
shuttle, Challenger. Soon after Y came to know of this, they started making similar
alterations to their product. Y were rumoured to have spent a whopping $14 million on
R&D to make their product conducive to space conditions. Even the White House got
wind of the war - it was said that Jimmy Carter preferred X, while Ronald Reagan was a
Y man. NASA's challenger was launched in 1985 with both X and Y's products, with the
day shift trying X, and the night shift of astronauts trying Y. The results were horrific -

X is a hairstyle, usually worn by people with naturally curly or straight hair,
by combing the hair away from the scalp. It was first observed in Circassian
women in Northwestern Caucasus, who were marketed to the White as the
"exotic east". It became popular in the United States during the American
Civil War, and later again found relevance during the Civil Rights Movement
in the 20th century as a political symbol of black pride, and was a key
feature of the "Black is beautiful" movement.

Merle Robbins was a former barber and card enthusiast in Milford, in Reading,
Ohio. In 1971, while playing a game called Crazy Eights, he ran into an argument
over his son over the rules. To make peace, Robbins ended up inventing
something, out of his family table. He decided to go commercial with it, saving
up $8,000 and creating 5,000 copies, selling them out of his barber shop. He
later sold the rights to a funeral store owner in Joliet, Illinois, who took Robbins’
creation to a global level. Robbins unfortunately passed away in 1984, but his
legacy lives on - it is now produced in 80 countries and has sold 151 million
copies worldwide - and many of us will have been a part of it, too. What was

Known for provocative guerilla performances in public places, this group's
objectives include campaigning for issues such as feminism and LGBT rights.
Having had several run-ins with the political establishment of their country,
they first gained prominence in 2012, after they staged a protest

members received prison sentences as a result. They again made the news
this July, through a typical act, but in a different environment.

The Diomede Islands, also known as Gvozdev Islands, are a pair of islands named
after the Greek saint and martyr Diomedes. First found by Semyon Dezhnev in the
15th century, then later rediscovered by Danish navigator Viktor Bering, the
islands are located roughly 3.8 km apart - the gap was also popularly called "Ice
Curtain" in the 20th century. Due to harsh conditions, the islands are very sparsely
populated - while Little Diomede has an Inuit population of roughly 170, Big
Diomede is now only inhabited by military units. Although they are only 2.4 miles
apart in distance, the islands are virtually polar opposites of something in another
regard.

million continuation contract with Comedy Central, and disappeared from public
view. He did not properly re-enter the comedy scene until 2013, since which he

When Andy Weir wrote the 2011 novel X, he strove to present the science
correctly and used reader feedback to get it right. When _____ began directing a
