As concerns grow over privacy and data usage on mainstream platforms, decentralized networks run by consumers rather than corporations offer an alternative. However, challenges remain around moderation and preventing toxicity without centralized oversight. In 2023, one or two decentralized networks may start to gain significant traction if they can address these issues, putting pressure on major platforms to offer users more choice and autonomy.
