Mean, Median and Mode are three
kinds of averages. There are many
averages in statistics.
The mean is the average you are
used to where you add up all the
numbers and then divide by the
number of numbers.
The median is the middle value in
the list of numbers. To find the
median your numbers have to be
listed in numerical order from
smallest to largest, so you may
have to rewrite your list before you
can find the median.
The mode is the value that occurs
most often. If no number in the list
is repeated, then there is no mode
for the list.
Mean of Grouped Data
𝑥 =
𝑓𝑥
𝑛
where 𝑥 = mean
𝑓 =frequency of each class
𝑥= mid interval value of each class
𝑛=total frequency
Weighted mean
Weighted mean=
(𝑥 𝑖 𝑤𝑖)
𝑤𝑖
where
𝑖 = 1,2,3 … . 𝑛
Standard deviation
A quantity expressing
by how much the members of a
group differ from the mean value
for the group
In Statistics and probability theory
standard deviation shows how
much variation or dispersion exists
from the average.
Use of standard variance when
comparing data sets to determine
which is more variable.
It used to determine the
consistency of a variable.
To determine the number of data
values that fall within a specified
interval in a distribution.
Used quite often in inferential
statistics.
Thank You
