- 9. VISUALIZE YOUR CAREER WITH AWARENESS STEM-skilled jobs grew three times faster than non-STEM jobs over the past 10 years. By Pam Ray for DeVry U-Her World 2012 STEM related occupations between 2008 and 2018 are projected to grow by 17 percent compared to just 9.8 percent growth for non-STEM occupations. STEM occupations command higher wages, earning 26 percent more than non-STEM counterparts. STEM degree holders enjoy higher earnings, regardless of whether they work in STEM or non-STEM occupations. (Drexel University- Center for Labor Markets & Policy) STEM Enhances all Future Opportunities: The US Dept of Commerce (BLS) reports unemployment in the tech sector at only 3.8% -- with 7-13% job growth for engineers. (US unemployment is still above 9%).
