○ Cathedral Model: Source code is available with each software release
○ Bazaar Model: Code is developed over the internet in view of the public
● Any kind of help beneficial for the Open Source is called Contribution
● Open source is karma based. The more you contribute the more your voice is heard in
the community
● Open Source is Not always Free Software. Open Source have a license to share the
code - GPL and LGPL
What is Open source ?
● How many times you have heard that a proprietary software was hacked and millions
of credit card data and user data was leaked ?
● Corporates can now get benefit of free contributions from the public
● Open source could be fundamental block for many proprietary softwares
● Millions of developers make full time living on open source.
● Companies look for top contributors and hire them
