Educators are still taught and teach with the model that was created in the early 1900s for all of the
ensembles, not just the large–group ensembles. This creates problems in finding Music Authenticity

To find Music Authenticity, students make connections to the music through their experiences. This
is difficult to do when music ensembles are taught by the teacher in complete control instead of

I am a listener of popular music. Personally, I think that the popular music nowadays is quite
different from what it used to be, including both the way of distributing music and the content of
music. Actually, after doing research online I found that the popular music is getting worse. In 2012,
a group of scientists did a research on nearly half a million songs to examine the changes in music
between 1955 and 2010 (Matson, 2012). They found out none of the changes on music necessarily
good based on the examination of timbre (sound color, texture, tone quality), pitch (the harmonic

variety is steadily declining after 1960, which implies that songs are becoming more and more

Funk vs Pop
Funk music and Pop music are two very similar yet very different genres. Pop music has a wide
variety whereas funk is much more concise. They both have similar instrumentation and notation
and they both have different derivatives and time periods. Funk is a groovy genre with many
danceable features which uses key features such as syncopation and staccato and modern day pop
uses these elements but adds its own modern sound including synthesizers etc. Both genres have

Modern day pop music only differs slightly from the perspectives of a consumer or listener while

All three aspects will contrast two similar, but distinctly different perspectives derived from personal

A consumer is someone who financially invests in the genre to increase their immersion without

When I was young, I was always singing. I made up my own melodies, put on concerts for my
parents, and listened to the radio any time I could. I was a performer, and I was a "star." My parents
signed me up for piano lessons, and for me, music was all about fun. I hated rules and practicing,
like most children, so much that I quit piano lessons and took a period of "exploration" during my
middle school years. During that time, I started writing my own (very simple) pieces on piano and
with my voice. I learned pop music by ear and through free guitar sheets with chord names that I
found online. I sang in a choir, but did not take any "music classes." At that time, I thought songs
were whatever I wanted it to be, not complicated pieces of music but merely verses with chords and

again. A lot of pop songs are usually written about love or about dancing. It is criticized a lot for
being too simple or for being overly repetitive. It is also thought to be more of a simple genre to

For the past 4–5 years I have listened to Korean pop music as my main source of music. Over this
time, a lot of changes have happened in the Kpop community but the most outstanding change was
how much more popular Korean music has become worldwide. Kpop has been around since the 90's
but has recently become much more popular globally with thanks to the internet and social media.
Globalisation and its effects have been amplified extremely by the Internet which has facilitated
communications between different groups of people on a global scale. Sites such as Twitter,
Facebook and YouTube have allowed Korean artists to reach a new, much larger audience and
achieve global success. The surge in the visibility of Korean culture has been coined 'The Korean
Wave' or 'Hallyu' which translated literally means the flow of Korea. The Hallyu wave first began by
the spread of Korean dramas being televised in other areas of Asia and continued to grow once
Kpop artists began utilising social networking services and in particular YouTube. Much of the
Hallyu Wave's success can be attributed to the video sharing website. YouTube has allowed Korean
(and other nationalities) artists to post their content online and be viewed by the larger overseas
audience. As of 2012, the most viewed video that has ever been uploaded to YouTube is a Korean
