The Impact of Intellectual Property (IP) on 2012 Canadian Foreign Trade • The charges for the use of IP accounted for only 0.68% of Canadian export, but caused $7.1 billions of foreign trade deficit, about 19.6% of the total foreign trade deficit ($36 billions); • Knowledge-based is not good enough; • IP is the key factor to the added value in global value chains; • Patent CI can help to improve the added value of export.
