FILM MAKING
TV Production
What is Film?
• Thin flexible strip of plastic or other
material coated with light-sensitive
emulsion for exposure in a camera, used
to produce photographs or motion
pictures.
Movie: a Cinema Film
• a story or event recorded by a camera as
a set of moving images and shown in a
cinema or on television.
What is film
making?
FILM MAKING
Filmmaking is the process of making a film, generally in
the sense of films intended for extensive theatrical
exhibition. Filmmaking involves a number of discrete
stages including an initial story, idea, or commission,
through screenwriting, casting, shooting, sound
recording and reproduction, editing, and screening the
finished product before an audience that may result in
a film release and exhibition.
FILM LANGUAGE
In a good film, the audience understands the story that
the filmmaker is trying to show them, and feels what
the filmmaker means them to feel.
To be a successful filmmaker, you need to use different
techniques to make sure this happens. You need to
know what will happen if you frame a shot in a
particular way; how you can use sound to help show
what’s going on, and how to edit your shots together in
sequences that build tension or emotion.

PRODUCTION DESIGNER
Production Designer
Production designers are responsible for the visual
concept of a film, television or theatre production.
They identify a design style for sets, locations, graphics,
props, lighting, camera angles and costumes, while
working closely with the director and producer.

The process of Film Making
The filmmaking process
step by step:
When you make a film, you need to follow an
organized filmmaking process. It’s best to think of it
as three distinct stages:
• PRE-PRODUCTION
planning and getting ready to film.
• PRODUCTION
filming
• POST-PRODUCTION
completing the film and getting it ready to show.
STEPS OF PRE-PRODUCTION
• Concept
• Outline/one liner
• Script and screenplay
• Storyboard
• Finance/budget
• Tech scout/finding crew
• Location scout/finding locations
• Casting
• Production design
Concept
This is where you develop your story, its
structure, and plot points. Ideas often are drawn
from personal experiences or ripped from the
headlines. Maybe it’s a story you were told as a
child, or a product of your own wild imagination.
Script
the dialogues or voice overs in the entire film
Screenplay
Every thing or any action which audience is
gonna watch on the screen is screenplay
Storyboard
A visual representation of each scene in your
film, your storyboards can illustrate character
placement, blocking, lighting positions, focal
length, and other notes.
Tech Scout
The purpose of the tech scout is for the director
to visit each and every location with the heads of
each department and explain precisely what
each shot will entail: where the camera will be,
details of camera movement, what the actors
will be doing, and what the look of the scene will
be.
Location scout:
You may need to tailor your storyboards to your
location or vice-versa, so finding them early is
key. Many hands-on producers & directors may
want to do this themselves, but often the
smartest thing to do is hire a professional
location scout who already has locales in mind or
knows how to find original ones perfect for your
script.
Production Design:
How will the film been displayed on the screen.
PRODUCTION
When pre-production is done and the director,
producer satisfied with the pre-work the they
start shooting film
Things Essential in
Production:
• Lights
• Sound (live recorded sound/ ADR)
• Cinematography
• Casting/acting
Video Lights
Four Common Types of Film Lights
1. Tungsten (Quartz Halogen/Tungsten Halogen)
2. HMI (Hydrargyrum medium-arc iodide)
3. Fluorescent
4. LED (light emitting diode)
Tungsten Fluorescent HMI LED
Sound Recorder
Following types of devices used in Live sound
recording:
• Zoom H1m Device
• Boom Mic
• Wireless Microphones
• Windshields
Difference between
Cinematography&Videography?
Casting : Types of Characters
• Protagonist
the leading character or one of the major
characters in a play, film, novel, etc.
• Antagonist
a person who actively opposes or is hostile
to someone or something; an adversary.
Camera angles and shots
• Medium shot
• Closeup shot
• Long shot
• The dutch shot
• Low angle
• High angle
• Extreme closeup
• Over the shoulder
• Point of view shot
POST-PRODUCTION
The post production process is
the final part of producing a
podcast, radio show, film or other
type of multi-step project with a
"finishing step." This is where the
final piece is looked at and final
changes are made that will refine
or correct the production process.
Steps such as editing, correction,
and optimization are often
categorized as post-production
steps.
STEPS OF POST-PRODUCTION
• Video editing
• Compositing
Color grading
Chroma Keying
Motion graphics
Visual effects
• ADR/ sync
• Foley
• Sound designing
Video editing
Video editing is the manipulation and arrangement of
video shots. Video editing is used to structure and
present all video information, including films and
television shows.
Compositing
Compositing is the combining of visual
elements from separate sources into single
images, often to create the illusion that all
those elements are parts of the same scene.
Color grading
Color grading is the process of improving the
appearance of an image for presentation in
different environments on different devices.
Motion graphics
Motion graphics are pieces of digital footage or
animation which create the illusion of motion or
rotation.
Visual effects is the process by which imagery
is created or manipulated outside the context
of a live action shot in film making.
Visual effects
.
Foley
Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound
effects that are added to film, video, and
other media in post-production to enhance
audio quality. These reproduced sounds can
be anything from the swishing of clothing and
footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking
glass.
Automated Dialog Replacement (ADR) is the
process of re-recording dialogue by the
original actor after the filming process to
improve audio quality.
