leaving the audience filled with suspense and extremely sweaty palms. This project, completed by
James Marsh, was truly a job well done, because of the way he has Petit narrate the documentary
and how he recounts the events that unfold. This film kept me on the edge of my seat the entire
time because of the way the events were revealed by cross cutting between flashbacks that explain
to the audience a little about what is going on, rushing towards the unfolding of the morning before
the adventure. Supplemental to the vast amount of historical footage in the film, Marsh uses
several aesthetics of realism such as voiceovers, on camera interviews, textual information on
screen to display facts, mise en scene, handheld cameras, natural lighting, existing footage, real
people and diegetic sounds. Throughout the film, the filmmaker s obvious goal is not only about
telling a story about a man, but more significantly about an overall attitude towards life that refuses

Introduction
When looking to educate myself on the most commonly seen health conditions in hospitals, I
turned to Mrs. Tonya Simpson RN, a registered nurse at St. Joseph hospital in New Jersey. Mrs.
Simpson informed me that Tuberculosis is a disease that she sees profusely at St. Joseph hospital.
During the interview I gained great insight on why she chose this particular disease, the etiology,
the frequency, prevalence, pathophysiology, signs/symptoms, treatments, and the prognosis of
Tuberculosis.
Etiology
During the interview with healthcare provider Mrs. Tonya Simpson, she when in great detail
explaining that Tuberculosis is a bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This is
a disease that affects the lungs and can be transmitted from person to person by coughing, face to
face conversing, sneezing, and even breathing the same air of an infected person can spread the
disease. A profuse amount of people have TB, but the bacteria is not active, which prevents them
from being contagious (T. Simpson, personal communication, March 25, 2015). It is only when the
disease is presented to be active that it can be transmitted. Seniors and children have a greater risk
to be infected with Tuberculosis due to their weak immune systems.

reported in the United States, with an incidence rate of 3.0 cases per 100,000 population, a

Seasons
In The Skating Party, each season brings a separate event for Nathan. In the spring, he falls in
love with Delia. Spring is shown as a happy season full of blooming plants, which directly
correlates with his budding love for Delia. In Fall, Nathan falls in love with Eunice. Fall is still
considered to be a nice season, however it is often raining, and doesn t have as joyful of a mood as
spring. This symbolism of these two seasons shows that Nathan always liked Delia more, and had
a higher regard for his love for her than his love with Eunice. Finally, in the winter, Nathan faces
the tragedy of Eunice s death. Winter is a season when plants and trees die, which is not
coincidentally the season that his fiancГ©e passes away as well.
Frozen Lake, Ice Skating
When Maida s mother, Winnie, speaks of skating, she remembers it as a happy time. Winnie
always used to skate when she was younger, so this as a result created numerous pleasant
memories for her. However, for Uncle Nathan, ice skating represents death and grief; it was while
he was skating that he lost his fiancГ©e, Eunice, so he doesn t like to think of this activity as a
result.
Stone Man
At the beginning of this story, Nathan and Maida s parents tell her about the Stone Man that once
stood on the hill that their house is on. Maida s Grandfather needed more land to grow his crops,
and the only land he could use was where the Stone Man stood; he was forced to choose between
