Thomas Edison was born in Ohio in 1847 and was the seventh child in his family. As a child, he had hearing problems and was taught at home by his mother. As a teenager, he worked selling candy and newspapers on trains and started his own newspaper business. His first job was as a telegraph operator after saving a young boy from an accident.
