Words Can Hurt
• Words are powerful! They can make people
happy, but they can also hurt. Today, we’ll
learn how to use words for kindness instead of
harm.
What is Verbal Abuse?
• Verbal abuse is when someone uses words to
hurt another person. It can include:

• - Yelling in a mean way
• - Making fun of someone repeatedly
How Does Verbal Abuse Affect Us?

• This is why words matter!
Verbal Abuse vs. Constructive

• Verbal Abuse: 'You're so slow!'
• Constructive Criticism: 'You made a mistake,
but you can try again!'
• Let's always use words to encourage others!
How to Respond to Verbal Abuse
• You can:
• 1. Walk away
• 2. Speak up calmly
• 3. Tell a trusted adult
• Let's practice how to respond in different
situations!
Kind Words Matter!
• Examples of kind words:
• - 'You are amazing!'
• - 'I’m happy you’re my friend!'
• - 'You did a great job!'
• Let's use words to lift others up!

using words or actions, even without touching
them.

• Everyone deserves to be treated with
kindness!
