This document summarizes research on using wearable technology for health monitoring and prevention of workplace risks. It discusses three areas: 1) functional electrical stimulation (FES) to improve dropfoot gait in stroke patients, finding that FES combined with gait training improves hemiplegic walking; 2) an upper limb FES system that uses multi-pad electrodes to stimulate forearm muscles and produce functional grasps; 3) the MaxSens project which investigates distributed stimulation arrays to provide proprioceptive feedback from an artificial hand for amputees, finding they can recognize 8 hand states after short training.
