The Lord encourages Joshua to represent the tribe of Ephraim in reconnoitering
the promised land. “Yet there shall be a space between you and it about two
thousand cubits by measure come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by
whichyemustgo;foryehavenotpassedthiswayheretofore.”(Joshua 3:4)
Joshua told his people that they should know the way before they start a new
journey to lead Israel into Canaan as it was essentially a military operation.
Joshua found himself confronted by a personage who might be a foe or ally. His
challenge elicited that the stranger was neither, but commander of the army of
The Lord who had come not to help but to supersede Him. He was to learn that
thereisaspiritualsideeventoearthlywarfare.
When time came for Joshua to assume full command of the Nation, he was
fortiﬁed with strong reassurance. “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of
a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for The Lord thy God is
withtheewhithersoeverthougoest.”(Joshua 1:9)
Joshua was granted privileges and so he possessed the power of clear decision
and direction fromThe Lord that he might know the way by which he must go and
live for The Lord and feel the responsibility of accomplishing His work. Jesus
said to His disciples “Go ye unto all the world and preach the word, and make
disciples.” (Matt. 28: 18 ).Thank God for the assurance that the word is a heritage
for allwho loveTheLord.
The more we grow in grace the more we depend upon God for His wisdom. You
know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not even one thing has failed of
allthegoodthingswhichTheLordyourGod spoke concerningyou.
We need to choose you this day to serve The Lord whole heartedly to the trust
worthiness of God. The blessings we enjoy this and everyday come from our
loving father to help us on our way. But as for me and my house, we will serveThe
Lord.(Joshua 24:15).
This New Year The Lord may give each one of us a new direction to our mind,
natureand wisdomtoreceivethedivinenatureso astowalkworthyinHis site.

The Bible abounds with men of merit, it also abounds in many other things with
principles of fellowship. God’s primary method is to make men self-known. “The Lord
hathsought outamanafterHis own heart”(ISamuel13:14).
But in many cases, it was often marred by failure.The key to David’s life was his attitude
towards God. God’s glory was His greatest concern; it is recurring theme of His Psalms.
In his fight with, Goliath, he showed no concern for personal glory. His life was marked
notby ambition,butby aconsumingdesiretosecureGod’s glory.
He praised God continually with his whole heart. His drift from this position, through
serious, was temporary rather than habitual. Towards the end of his life he wanted to
build a house for The Lord. To him this would be the crowning achievement (2 Samuel
7:1-3). When God denied His proposal He did not sulk, but did what all he could to
prepare for its building by his son, Solomon. His desire kindled Solomon’s enthusiasm
(II Chor 6:8-9). David was the only one in the Bible called a man after God’s own heart
(Acts 13:22) He was so called because David did what was right in the eyes of The Lord,
and had not turned aside from anything that The Lord had commanded him all the days
ofhislife,exceptinthematterofUriahtheHittite(1Kings 15:5).
Likewise, we speak of Abraham’s faith and of Moses’ meekness. Every man is a
representative of some feature wrought into him developed in him. When we think of a
man, the future is always uppermost in our mind. Our attention is drawn not to the man as
a whole but to the characteristic which marks him in particular. So, if one calls us to
passes the faith ofAbraham, another will bid us to remember the patience of Job. These
features are God’s thoughts, and when all the features of all the men are gathered and
combined, they represent Christ. It is as though God had scattered one man over the
generationsandinamultitudeofmenunderHis mightyhand.
In other words, ifThe Lord has called us to a work, His resources are available right up to
the fulfilment of that calling. The supply is there according to the gift, the race according
to the gift, the vital force according to essential function. It is all there blessed be unto
Him.
Today as Christians we are facing many challenging issues in India. Nevertheless, our
God is the God of all history with sovereign wisdom and understanding. Today the
gospel is advancing throughout India despite heavy odds. Our Graduates in Good News
Bible College and Seminary are transforming their societies with their profound love for
God and passion for perishing souls. We thank our Graduates for their sincere
commitmentandeffortsinbuildingtheKingdomofGod.
We always give thanks to God and gracious prayers to Him and strategic partnership
with you. When I pray for you daily my heart is filled with gratitude and joy for the
fellowship and the way that God has brought us together with a purpose to fulfill the
great commission to reach the un-reached millions of dying souls all over the world. It is
my sincere prayer and desire that “Each one….Teach one – Each one…Reach one”.
Jesus Christ has promised “I will build my Church” and the gates of hell will not
overpowerit.”(Matt.16:18)
We praise God the gospel continues to impact our lives all over India. May The Lord’s

The Life of Christ (#3)
The child of God is much advantaged to come to
grips with the life lived by his Savior. I would
suggest that the insights to be listed here are
essential to a proper understanding of that most
wonderful of all lives, and thus that the believer is
well advised to consciously and deliberately include
these realities in his conception of that life.
#3 – Throughout His public ministry, Jesus made two
explicit claims concerning Himself: He claimed to be
the Messiah of Israel (the Christ), and He claimed to
be God come in the flesh (Mt 16:16; Jn 11:27; Mk
14:61).This two-fold claim is the essence of the
message which Jesus challenged men to believe
concerningHimself(Jn 20:31).
It is difficult for us to imagine how difficult it was to
accept these claims: the claim to Messiahship was
difficult because in so many ways Jesus disappointed
the self-serving but rabinically endorsed messianic
ideals cherished by His contemporaries; and the claim
that He was God come in the flesh was at once
incongruousandscandalous.
On the other hand, because Jesus lived out perfectly
His command to His disciples to be “as wise as
serpents and harmless as doves” (Mt 10:16, see #9 to
come), His claim to Messiahship (i.e., to be King of
Israel) was cleverly encoded in Old Testament figures
and passages so that the claim would be unmistakable
and compelling to Jews but appear innocuous to the
Roman overlords. (This because had Jesus more
explicitly claimed Messiahship/Kingship, He would
have enabled His enemies to be rid of Him easily;
Rome had no patience for pretender Kings in her
domain.)
Likewise, the claim to deity – scandalous to the Jews
but to the Romans less incendiary than the claim to be
king – was couched in ways especially telling to
Jewish hearers. For instance, the Scriptures insist that
only God is eternal; thus when Jesus claimed pre-
existence (Jn 8:56) He was understood by His Jewish
auditorstobeclaimingdeity.
TheLifeofChrist (#4)
#4 – The purpose of Jesus' many miracles was to
prove true His astoundingly difficult claims
concerning Himself (cf. John 3:2; Ac 2:22). Thus,
miracles were the most frequent during the period of
Jesus' ministry when His intent was to present
Himself to Israel as her Messiah (i.e., the first 2½
years).
During the first half of the final year of His ministry
(i.e., during that time when He was seeking solitude
with His disciples in order to reveal to them the
unsettling and startling fact that He was going to die
and rise again), Jesus was reluctant to do miracles and
anxious to escape the local notoriety which always
accompanied the doing of miracles. On the other
hand, when it once again became strategically
important to do so, Jesus again worked many
miracles.
The greatest of the miracles wrought by Jesus, and
thus the miracle with the most dramatic and important
vindicating force, was His own bodily resurrection
from the grave on the third day after His death and
burial(Rom1:4).

Dispatches From the Front. A man said to Roger
once, “I want to serve Christ in such places, but I
can't. I'm afraid.” Roger said, “Can you walk on
water?” Meaning, the apostle Peter walked on
water because he trusted the One who called him to
step out into an impossible situation. It reminded me
that Peter, Hudson, Roger, and all men and women
of faith walk on water when the venture all on
Christ. (Dispatches, p. 79)
Venture all on Christ
It should have been obvious to me all along, but it's
been occurring to me more and more lately what the
purpose of the Bible is. Of course, it's God's
revelation of Himself in terms of His plan of
salvation for His chosen. Of course, it's wisdom
given through God's word and laws. But overall it is
something more practical for the believer on a day-
to-day basis.

Scripture is the record of God's faithfulness to His
promises. In our Christian walk, we are called to
“venture all on Christ” in everything we do.
So what is “all”?
If you live in the U. S. or some other developed
nation, chances are questions such as the following
will linger on your mind at some point during the
year:
Will I win the spot for that next promotion?
Will my loan application get approved?
Will I be able to get from here to there in time to see
my son in his first baseball game?
Will my kids get into drugs in high school?
Similarly, if you live in a developed country,
chances are you will barely give thought to this next
set of questions:
Where will I sleep tonight?
What will I eat tomorrow?
Will I be able to survive the summer heat and the
winter freeze?
To someone not living in a developed country, the
first set of questions might be very foreign whereas
the second set is very familiar.
My point is not to juxtapose those two sets of
questions and judge the first as trivial or superficial
and the second as genuine or worthwhile. You see,

there is potential for idolatry in any one of these
questions, and so many others that we face every
day–even those we don't realize we are asking, those we
take for granted.
If God does not factor into how we regard any one of
these questions, then we may be guilty of idolatry. For it
is in God that “we live, and move, and have our being”
(Acts 17:25-28). We exist because of God. Where we
sleep, what we eat–our very survival–is at the pleasure
of our God. Our career path, our ﬁnancial picture, our
child's well-being is at the pleasure of God. God has not
simply “set things in motion”; He is not the impersonal
God of the deists–removed and unconcerned. Christ,
indeed, “is before all things, and by him all things
consist” (Col 1:17). Through Him, God made the world
(Jn 1:1-3), and even now, Christ “upholds all things by
the word of His power” (Heb 1:1-4).
So, I ask again, what is “all”? It is just that. It is
everything.
Every day, we are called to venture all on Christ.
Everything we do is to be done as if we are relying
on Him completely, because we are. Peter walked
on water by faith. It was his faith in the promises of
God that he was able to do so. You and I will likely
never walk on water (in this life at least), but that
doesn't mean our lives should be lived without faith
or without acknowledging God's sovereignty over
all things.
Venturing all on Christ has several other
implications for how we should live:
We should not act in fear, so long as we are acting
according to the will of God, as revealed in
Scripture, trusting Him to make our paths straight
and bring about the outcome He desires.
We should proportion our ambitions to the
abilities of God, not necessarily to our limited
human abilities.
We should not fail to see God's hand in the small
things, because while God does indeed act boldly
in human history, He also acts quietly through the
minutiae of life. We should hone our skills in
recognizing and reacting faithfully to all of God's
activities, great and small.
We should be sensitive to God's timing, not
forcing things that God is not ready to have happen
nor ignoring the opportunities He places before us
to act upon.
We should remain ever humble, knowing that “it
is God who is at work in you, both to will and to
work for His good pleasure” (Phil 2:13).
In all our comings and goings, we should
acknowledge the absolute sovereignty of God.
Trivial matters to us are not trivial to Him. Our next
meal is no less dependent on the work of His good
will than an approved loan. Live according to these
truths and you will be venturing all on Christ.

The majority of the Jews living at the time of the close of
the Old Testament writings had no vital faith. Because of
their spiritual callousness, God stayed the pens of the
prophets and left blank the parchments. Four hundred
years of silence blackened Israel's experience. Oppression
and persecution had been their plight. The voice of God
was stilled and spiritual depression engulfed God's people.
Against this backdrop the words of the Apostle Paul to the
Galatians had a dynamic impact—“[W]hen the fullness of
time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman,
born under the law, to redeem those who were under the
law, so that we might receive adoption as sons” (Galatians
4:4–5).
In the context Paul sets forth the case that believers under
the new covenant gained immediate adult sonship rights
by adoption, whereas those under the older testament were
denied full privileges until a set time. Other considerations
are taken from the historical context. In what ways was the
world made ready in God’s sovereign plan for sending
forthHis Son?
Paul L. Maier poignantly stated the relation of Paul’s
phrase “in the fullness of time” to the world into which
Christ came. “Paul’s famous comment that the Nativity
happened ‘in the fullness of time’ is usually interpreted to
mean that God had a good sense of timing, since conditions
prevailing in the Mediterranean world could not have been
more favorable for the spread of Christianity. . . . [T]he
Greeks had given their world a universal language through
which Jesus’message could spread easily and quickly. The
Roman Empire had organized the whole Mediterranean
basin into one vast communications network, almost
perfectlygearedtofosterthespreadofChristianity.”
In the world's neediest hour Christ the Savior came. John
the Baptist, the forerunner, angels, parents, and cosmic
forces all met to spell the fullness of time. It was the
incarnation of deity— the birth of Christ. Canon H.P.
Liddon said: “The preceding ages only prepared His way
before Him, by the forming of circumstances, the
convictions,themoralexperienceofHis countrymen
and others; and thus a preceding period, marked in the
counsels of God, had to be run out. At last the final hour
hadstruck,andthathour was the‘fullnessoftime.’”
It was God’s perfect time to shine the brilliant light of the
incarnate Christ. It is recorded in Matthew’s gospel. “And
leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the
sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what
was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: ‘The
land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the
sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—the
people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for
those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them
alighthasdawned’”(Matthew4:13-16).
It was the fullness of time politically. “In those days a
decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world
should be registered (Luke 2:1). The Jews had known
persecution, subjugation, tyranny, and exile from the time
of their spiritual rebellion against God's ways in the times
of the monarchy. First theAssyrians, then the Babylonians,
Medo-Persians,Greeks,Egyptians,SyriansandRomans.
They suffered a veritable holocaust under Antiochus
Epiphanes 175 years before the Advent of Christ. There
was a yearning for the overthrow of the Roman yoke.

tyranny will be conquered, not by military might, but by
thedynamicofthegospelofChrist.
It was the fullness of time philosophically. Noted
anthropologistArthurCustanceobserved:
In the four hundred years which
immediatelyprecededthebirthofJesus C h r i s t , G o d
allowed mankind to conduct a unique experiment. In these
years there was made the profoundest search for the
meaning of life which the human intellect is ever likely to
make. . . . It is almost universally conceded that the period
from Pericles to Aristotle marked the highest point in
human history in terms of pure intellectual achievement.
Yet it was followed within a few hundred years by what
must surely have been one of the darkest and most
appalling periods of history for free man and slave alike.
It ended in a situation, during the time of the Roman
Empire in which the elite of society came to look upon
suicideas theonlylogicalescape.
God deliberately remained silent, only that He might show
once for all the inability of man to discover the meaning of
life by the mere exercise of his own intellect and without
the aid of revelation. Only then did God break in on the
darknessandrevealthetruthinthefaceofJesus Christ.
It was the fullness of time morally. In the Roman epistle
Paul catalogued the depths of sin the world had reached.
“When they knew God, they glorified him not as God,
neither were thankful, but became vain in their
imaginations and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became
fools”(Romans 1:21–22). “Wherefore God gave them up
to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts to
dishonor their own bodies between themselves. Who
changed the truth of God into a lie and worshiped and
served the creature more than the creator” (Romans
1:25–26).
Shepard,inhisvolumeon thelifeofChrist,observed:
The world was in a state of extraordinary moral
degeneration. Two thousand lords in Rome had 1,200,000
slaves which were threatened with great cruelty. In the
empire there were 6 million slaves. The rich lived in utmost
profligacy. Chastity and marriage were the exception.
Divorce and immorality were the rule. The priests preyed
upon the masses of the ignorant. Many seductive cults
exerted a degrading influence. . . . The Emperors were
monsters of crime. Thousands of lives were sacrificed in
the arena to furnish entertainment for the Emperor and a
bloodthirstypopulation.Luxurywas b e y o n d
description. Children were considered with great disfavor
and infant exposure was prevalent. The spirit of the times
was tocorrupt andbecorrupted.
It was the fullness of time spiritually. The prophetAmos
predicted: “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the
Lord God, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a
famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the
words of the Lord. They shall wander from sea to sea, and
from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the
word of the Lord, but they shall not find it” (Amos
8:11–12). G. Campbell Morgan described it this way:
“Following on the famine of the word there would be a
great restlessness. Men will travel from sea to sea striving
for the word of the Lord and would not find it. Even for
those in the fairest and best of life, young men and women
there would be a fainting. Amos sees more deeply than the
judgments of fire, word and plague; he announced
judgmentwhichisno longermaterial,butaspiritualone.”
Morgan further explained: “If a man shall substitute nature
for God, a priest for God, a ceremony for God, then, though
the Word of God be speaking to him by a thousand voices,
he hears none, though the light of God flash from every
point of the compass, he walks in darkness. No voice, no
virtue,no vision,novictory,afamineoftheWordofGod.”
Someone astutely observed the amazing similarity of the
timeofChrist’s first comingandour day.

The Apathy of the Jewish Leaders
I agree with one author who suggested that this revealed
that the birth of Jesus had worldwide impact and
influence. It also showed that the Messiah was coming
through Israel as a gift from God to all nations, not just
to the Jews. And unfortunately, it illustrated that the Jews
would not care about His birth, but Gentiles would.
The Jewish leaders who told Herod where the Messiah
was to be born, did not care enough to walk the five
miles from Jerusalem to check it out; but Gentiles
traveled across the continent.
Did you notice that some of the Jewish religious leaders
had memorized the prophecy of Micah? They knew the
Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. You would think
some of the them would have immediately run there to
find out! They knew the Scriptures, but they missed the
Savior.
The wise men, on the other hand, traveled a great
distance. Persia was located in modern day Iran. They
traveled through Iran, and then through the country of
Iraq, and finally down into the land of Palestine.
This was a journey of several thousand miles, which was
a distance that would have taken them months to travel.
Before they left, it would have taken them several weeks
or even months to prepare for the journey.
So understand that when they arrived in Bethlehem, they
did not arrive at the stable.
After coming into the house they saw the Child with
Mary… (Matthew 2:11)
They did not come to a stable; they entered a house.
There, they “saw the Child,” not a brephos, which is the
Greek word for “baby,” but the paidion, which is the
Greek word for “little child.”
By the time the Magi had arrived, Jesus was between
one to two years of age.
The Adoration of Jesus Christ
After coming into the house they saw the Child with
Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and
worshiped Him… (Matthew 2:11)
The expression that the Magi “fell to the ground,” means
that they fell to their knees with their heads to the
ground and then, in the oriental fashion of their day,
kissed His feet and even the ground.
Can you imagine? Little Jesus, wide-eyed holding on to
his mother's robe, receiving worship from the kingmakers
of a Gentile empire, and then receiving gifts of gold,
frankincense, and myrrh.
Gold was the gift for a king. They gave gold for the One
who was heir to the throne of David.
Frankincense is a gum from the Boswellia tree. It was
used by the priests in the Old Testament as part of their
priestly service.
They gave frankincense for the High Priest, who will
intercede on our behalf.
Myrrh is a sweet fragrance taken from a small thorn tree.
Gum from its sap would be mixed with wine to form a
narcotic. That would be offered to Christ on the cross and
He would refuse it. It was a common substance used to
embalm a lifeless body.
They gave myrrh to the One who would wear a crown of
thorns; who would suffer on the cross; who would be
wrapped with it in the tomb.
They gave three gifts: gold for our King of Kings;
frankincense for our great High Priest; myrrh for our
suffering Savior who will redeem mankind from among
every nation on planet earth.
The Appropriate Response to Christ
In these few verses, there are three ongoing responses of
the world to the message of Christmas. From the first
century to the twenty-first century, the cultures change, but
the response of mankind does not.
There was the response of anger from Herod, apathy from
the Jewish leaders, and adoration from those who worship
Him as their Messiah.
If we look around us during this season, we will discover
these same responses. There are those who hate Him,
those who ignore Him, and those who fall to their knees
and worship Him, the One who is Christ, the Lord.
What will your response be to the One who came from
heaven? What will you do with Jesus this holiday season?
