This document summarizes the key findings of a study conducted by ActionAid in 6 countries on the links between violence against women and lack of access to public services in urban areas. The study found that women face significant challenges in accessing basic services such as transportation, housing, electricity, water and healthcare. It also found that sexual harassment is prevalent in public spaces. While governments have policies promoting gender equality and access to services, implementation is lacking, especially for poor communities. As a result, women often rely on inadequate or makeshift access to services. Across countries, issues with policing and lack of coordination between government departments in addressing violence and access to services were also identified.
