External Environment Analysis Essay
CHAPTER TWO
EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT ANALYSIS
At the end of this chapter, the student should be able to:
1. Understand the processes for an environmentally conscious organization.
2. Know the importance of SWOT analysis in analyzing both external and internal environment.
3. Understand the different segments of the external environment known as the general environment.
4. To find out how the strength of the company s competitive forces are congruent with the industry s
through the five forces model of industry competition.
5. To understand the relevance of benchmarking in evaluating company s performance as against
competitors.

6. Global segment. This segment includes political events, peace agreements or negotiations, critical
global markets, newly industrialized countries, trade agreements, and different cultural and
institutional attributes.
THE STRENGTH OF AN INDUSTRY S COMPETITIVE FORCES
Industry and competitive analysis should focus on the competitive dynamics of the industry. The five
forces model of competition is the most powerful and widely used tool for assessing the strength of
the industry s competitive forces.
The Five Basic Competitive Forces
1. The threat of new entrants. Several factors determine whether the threat of new companies entering
the marketplace presents a significant competitive pressure. As a rule, the bigger pool of entry
candidates, the stronger the threat of potential entry. Dess, et.al. enumerated the six major sources of
entry barriers.
a. Economies of scale. Economies of scale refers to spreading the costs of production over the number
of units produced. The cost of a product per unit declines as the absolute volume per period increases.
b. Product differentiation. When existing competitors have strong brand

Application Virtualization For A Virtual Machine Monitor (...
1. Introduction
Virtualization is a term used to describe technology that uses abstraction to instruct a guest operating
system, data storage, or network device to use underlying shared hardware or software as described by
Pearce et al. [1]. Abstraction is managed at a software layer known as a virtual machine monitor
(VMM) or hypervisor. The VMM or hypervisor emulates hardware to guest operating systems and
applications, which includes core processor unit (CPU), memory, input/output (I/O), and network
traffic [1, pp.2]. There are different areas of virtualization, which include server virtualization,
application virtualization, network virtualization, storage virtualization, and desktop virtualization [1,
pp.8]. The branching out of virtualization into different areas displays the rapid growth of this
technology.
The VMM and hypervisor software layer provides security challenges that should be addressed in
order to protect resources and data within virtualization. For example, this additional layer of
technology opens up new paths which an attacker can use to break into and interrupt a system or
network. The VMM can also be a single point of failure in a virtualized environment [1, pp. 33]. If the
VMM is compromised, then the virtual environment managed by the VMM could be compromised as
well.
The primary focus of this literature review will be physical hosts, which are VMMs and hypervisors
managing a virtualization environment. The Important Ideas section will

Some very interesting questions come to mind and we will be discussing them at length. The questions
are: Why did Monique Mandy fail to launch a new innovation in Tanzania? What effect did country
and market conditions have on this? What is the importance of social capital and networks in
entrepreneurship? Did Monique learn out of this failure? What would she do or avoid next time?
Without discussing and address these questions, this paper would not have properly analyzed the
Adesemi Failure as it were.
THE MAIN REPORT
The Company Adesemi
Adesemi, an American start up in Africa, had been trying for six years to blanket the developing world
with desperately needed wireless communications services. It had raised more than $15 million in
venture capital and launched the world s first fully integrated virtual phone system which incorporated
voice mail, pagers, and hundreds of pay phones in one of its poorest countries, Tanzania. Then
Adesemi crashed to earth, leaving its founder, Monique Maddy, with a company that was a shadow of
the powerhouse she had envisioned. The company s demise was personally and financially devastating
to Maddy, a Liberian born entrepreneur who grew up wanting to work for the United Nations and who
ultimately trained at Harvard Business School . According to Maddy Monique My

Psychoactive Drugs Can Have On An Individual s Brain
To fully understand the affects that psychoactive drugs can have on an individual s brain, one has to
first define the term, dissect the history and use, know what factors cause addiction, and what leads to
drug dependency. What is a psychoactive drug? A psychoactive drug, psycho pharmaceutical, or
psychotropic is a chemical substance that changes brain function and results in alterations in
perception, mood, or consciousness (drug, n.d). Typically the term drug alone can be seen or
associated with a positive or negative view. For example, when an individual is under the weather
suffering from cold like symptoms, they may take cough syrup to aid them into recovery sooner.
Whereas an individual who is perfectly healthy may take this same ... Show more content on

Opioids have long been valued for their effect on the gastrointestinal system due their ability to
quieting coughing (codeine) and counteracting diarrhea. One of the most popular forms of opium used
today medically is morphine. Although opioids are the most effective medication in aiding chronic
pain and many other issues, it has been given a bad rap as a very addictive substance when not
monitored correctly or taken in moderation.
What causes addiction? .No one single factor can determine why psychoactive drugs have a tendency
to become addictive. On the contrary the more risk factors a person has, the greater the chance that
taking drugs will lead to abuse and addiction. Learned behavior such as classical learning is one factor
that can lead to addiction and later abuse. Through classical conditioning one can pair the pleasure of
addictive substances or activities with environmental cues. For example, suppose someone smokes a
cigarette in their car after work. The enjoyment of smoking a cigarette forms a paired association with
riding in the car, as well as the time frame after work . By repeatedly pairing cigarettes with car, and
cigarettes after work, both the car and after work will become cues to smoke cigarettes. Then these
cues (getting into the car, getting off work) may create powerful cravings for nicotine.

you are approaching a specific work zone. Typically, these signs will say Three miles ahead work

men and women working and others supervising. One of the construction workers will be holding a
sign to indicate to slow down, right on the side of the road saying slow down. Once you pass the

Crime And Poverty And Struggles Of The Sioux Tribe
A history of struggle and isolation from the rest of society has led to the deterioration of Native
American cultures and customs and to their rising levels of unemployment, poverty, and crime on
reservations. The United States government has had a major role in the coming about of the struggles
that persist for Native Americans to this day. As crime and poverty grip the Sioux tribe, they will
continue to lose their traditional culture and move farther from who they once were as a people. I will
first review how European explorers introduced alcohol to Native American tribes and how this lead
to a strong prevalence of alcoholism in the Sioux tribe. Next I will discuss the U.S. government s use
of forced assimilation and boarding schools led to the loss of Native American culture and customs.
This led to more anger of the Sioux tribe towards the U.S. government and to outer society as a whole.
Third I will analyze the living conditions and complacency felt by the Sioux tribe as seen through the
photographs and interviews conducted by journalist Aaron Huey. Lastly, I will assess the efforts taken
by the elders and leaders of the Sioux tribe to combat the prevalence of crime on their reservation. The
people of the United States and their government have caused many struggles for the Sioux tribe since
their existence in America. For these problems to be resolved, the United States needs to take an active
role in acknknwoldeging the problem and allocating the necessary resources

The Devil s Arithmetic and the book The Breadwinner both have very injustice settings, characters,

What Are Genetic And Environmental Factors That Affect The...
Ultraviolet (UV) light is just outside of our visual range. It s fairly energetic and causes changes to
human tissue. This should be fairly obvious since it tans the skin, causes sun burns, prematurely ages
the skin, and can damage the eyes. Just as some types of people are more likely to suffer from skin
cancer because of UV exposure, some types of people have a better than average chance of suffering
from UV related eye damage.
There are two general factors that contribute to this vulnerability: your genetics and external
circumstances that increase your exposure to sunlight.
Your Genetics
Just as fair skinned people have a higher incidence of skin cancer, people with light colored eyes such
as blue or green have a higher risk of melanoma ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It simply takes more of it. It may not cause the same level of discomfort, but it still interferes with a
clear view of the road when driving.
Your External Circumstances
There are many non genetic external factors that affect your risk of UV related eye damage. These
include:
You re an Outdoors Person
This makes sense since UV eye damage is a cumulative process. Your risk of UV eye problems later in
life is the sum of all the hours spent every day in the sun. This includes cloudy days. Some activities
are especially risky. These include skiing, mountain climbing, time at the beach, and boating. Nike
sunglasses have a large selection that accommodates the needs of most outdoor enthusiasts and
athletes.
You Live in Mountainous or Sunbelt States
The higher your altitude, the less protective atmosphere above you to protect against UV light. This
means you get a higher rate of exposure than someone living at sea level.
Thick clouds and bad weather do block some UV light. However, sunbelt states are predominantly
sunny, which means you get more UV exposure than those who live elsewhere. The southerly locale
of the sunbelt states also means the sun is higher overhead during all seasons of the year. Sunglasses
are a must for those living in areas with high UV

Sga Vice President Essay
Life is full of little meaningful events and experiences, they go so unnoticed that we don t realize they

today is a challenge and a blessing. As SGA Vice president I am responsible for the activities of the

Comparison Of Barbie Doll And A Work Of Artifice
In two poems, the American poet, novelist, and social activist Marge Piercy addressed the seriousness
of gender roles and oppression of women. She does so in her poems Barbie Doll and A Work of
Artifice. After examining them closely, the use of imagery and tone show two different outlooks on
the topic. In the first poem, Marge shows that a woman changes herself, while in the second poem she
writes that woman are changed forcefully.
In each poem, we see immense vivid and powerful imagery. In Barbie Doll we see the entire life of a

role. It moves onto teen years where more and more people would stop seeing her and start seeing

Essay about Physics Behind Flying Airplanes
The Physics behind Flying Airplanes
There are several aspects involved in the dynamics of airplane and how they become airborne. This
report will address the main physics involved and mathematic formulae that prove how airplanes get
above the ground from a small fighter jet to a massive Boeing 747. The necessities involved in
keeping there massive weights in the air and the extreme forces needed to land these airplanes and
bring them to a halt will also be explored.
Firstly, the formula F = ma, where F is force, m being mass and a meaning acceleration. This formula
is used in the design stage of airplanes but in a different format, a = F/m. This meaning that for the
acceleration to be greater F and m needs to be changed, this would ... Show more content on

This clearly shows that the greater the force and the smaller the mass go towards making the
acceleration greater.
Another formula that s used is, a = v u/t, a meaning acceleration, v being average velocity, u as initial
velocity and where t is equal to time. So lets assume that the initial velocity of the airplane is zero and
its average velocity is at 6.7 x 101 m s 1 and the airplane has been traveling at this velocity for 10
seconds, so a = (6.7 x 101 0)/10 = 6.7 m s 2. This would then require a runway of 6.7 x 102 metres in
length and obviously for the velocity to become greater a longer runway and greater acceleration
would have to be a necessity. This formula would then be used, at = v u, now the acceleration of the
airplane is increased to 1.2 x 101 m s 2 and the time measured is increased to 12 seconds. In a formula
it looks like this, (1.2 x 101 m s 2) x (12 s)= 144 m s 1. We can determine the distance of the runway
by using this formula, d = vt, this means d=144 m s 1 x 12= 1.73 x 103 m. This shows why a larger
runway is a lot more beneficial to an airplane and results in the plane reaching its needed speed. By
making a runway longer this dramatically increases the safety, if a runway was not long enough the
airplanes would not be able to reach the needed speed to leave the ground but

Failures Of The Weimar Republic
In its beginnings, the Weimar Republic was one of the most progressive nations in all of Europe. With
42% of its electorate voting for either the Social Democrats or Communists in 1928, and with a
population both embracing homosexuality and redefining gender roles, Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party
were somehow able to take power in the democratic system. Though Hitler s rise to power certainly
was not peaceful, it did not solely rely on violence. To the detriment of the minority, indifference of
the majority was all that was needed to carry out many plans. Citizens of the Weimar Republic were
not initially ready to allow a dictatorship that would produce the horrors of Hitler s regime; instead,
Paul von Hindenburg, the Catholic Center Party, and ultimately, the once progressive German public
all overlooked the atrocities of the Nazi Party due to the deceptions of Adolf Hitler, the creation of
common enemies, and the systematic pacification of the German people.
Adolf Hitler s appointment to the chancellor is attributed to the Great Depression of 1929, the rise of
the Nazi Party, and an underestimation of Hitler by the Conservative Party. The devastating effects of
the worldwide depression caused the conservative President Paul von Hindenburg to enact Article 48
of the Weimar constitution due to an emergency state, which essentially allowed the president to
appoint a chancellor without the approval of the Reichstag. Hindenburg appointed numerous different

The Legacy Of Martin Luther
Martin Luther was a big deal in history. He had a big part in the reformation. Priests would take your
money by telling you that you could get rid of your sin if you paid them. Martin knew that it was all a

for forgiveness from God on your own for free. He fought for what he believed, and he made a good

and preventative actions. These clauses are designed to promote conformity of processes such as
design, production, and servicing by striving towards the goal of total quality management.
ISO 9000 1 addresses quality management and quality assurance standards. This document defines the
primary concept of the series such as principal objectives and responsibilities, the process of an
organization, and the roles of documentation. This document also provides a definition of terminology
and provides guidance needed for all ISO 9000 series issues.
ISO 9004 1 addresses internal procedures such as organizational goals, management responsibilities,
training, and servicing. As in the ISO 9001 series, this series also contains twenty clauses. This is also
the standard, which provides for the most misunderstandings. It is important that companies
completing the certification process understand the relationship of this standard to the other ISO 9000
family standards. Clauses within the ISO 9004 1 standard provide the foundation for completing
certain ISO 9001 requirements.

The Persistence Of Memory By The Surrealist Artist...
The Persistence of Memory is a painting by the famous Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali. La
persistencia de la memoria used to be the original title of this painting. It was created in 1931. The
painting is quite small as its dimensions are 24.1 x 33 cm and is made with oil on canvas. The
Persistence of Memory depicts the famous melting clocks or melting watches images. Also, it is one
of the most recognizable surrealist painting in the world. In this painting, Dali has used Surrealism as
his technique. Surrealism is a movement that has been influenced by Freudianism and seeks to express
the imagination of a person which is reveled in dreams. It was the dominant movement in the 1920 s

masterpiece. But to a person who doesn t have the right knowledge about art, like me, the persistence

understand its purpose maybe it was made to be not understood at all. An eye fooling, the exact word I

The Use Of Mnemonics
Khan (2008) declared that mnemonics are derived from Mnemosyne, ancient Greek goddess. A
memory aid or pertaining to aiding the memory. Often considered to be a code, device, acronym or
formula to facilitate memory or understanding (p.7). Mnemonic devices are memory aids that help
learners in recalling particular data by using a strategy or technique that enable learners to develop
memory (Richmond, Cummings Klapp, 2008). During the ancient time of Rome and Greece,
mnemonic devices have been applied in order to make the acquisition of target words easier by
providing clear pictures for thoughts and ideas (Baleghizadeh Ashoori, 2010). Mnemonics are useful
techniques that help learners remember vocabulary more effectively and this strategy involves
connecting unfamiliar information to the information that is already existed in the long term memory

According to O Brien (2011), mnemonics have a firm place in our repertoire of memory techniques

and also these techniques, verbal or visual, that develop the storage and recall of data included in
memory (Ashoori Tootkaboni, 2012).
According to Shmidman and Ehri (2010), Mnemonics are effective when they speed up learning,

berries they re poisonous! But there are a few other things you can do with them. Find out what you
can do with asparagus berries here. Both male and female asparagus plants produce tiny, attractive
flowers, however, it is primarily the female plant which makes the small, red, berry like seed pods.
These seed pods are poisonous to humans and pets, but they look nice along with the fern like foliage
when growing in the garden or added to floral arrangements. Asparagus Seed Pods Look Like Berries

Arrow Of God District 9 Comparison
Arrow of God written by Chinua Achebe is set in the 1920 s located in Nigeria. The book focuses on
the main character Ezeulu, the Igbo people s chief priest. Throughout the text we see Ezeulu have
conflicts with other tribes and with Christian missionaries, get sent to prison for denying a position
from the British, and Ezeulu having difficulties within his own tribe and their yam harvest (Achebe).
All the events that happened in Arrow of God lead to a much deeper meaning. If we take a look at a
look at the very complex film District 9 produced by Peter Jackson, we see a very different but similar
story. This is a mockumentary type film that explores the life of a MNU executive, an alien and his
son, the Nigerian gang, and a mercenary soldier employed by MNU (IMDb). In both stories, Arrow of
God and District 9, there are very blunt patterns of fiction, distinct archetypes, and prominent
philosophies used. The stories above are two different types of media, with similar content. Both book
and movie shows a tribe being pushed out of their home, in almost the same way. In both stories we
see patterns of fiction, which is when a reader is introduced to a character and some event or a
challenge occurs. In Arrow of God, Ezeulu is faced with a difficult decision towards the end of the
story. We call this The Choice. Ezeulu is faced with the decision to allow his tribe to participate in the
New Yam Feast, but instead tells them not to and famine strikes the

Sister Carrie Character Analysis
In Sister Carrie, Dreiser uses very detailed descriptions of characters and their appearance. These are
not empty descriptions, each description of the clothes is so convincing that it plays with the readers
senses allowing them to visualize a dynamic cinematic picture (Stankovic 79). For example, Carrie s
total outfit consisted of a small trunk, a cheap imitation alligator skin satchel, a small lunch in a paper
box, and a yellow leather snap purse, containing her ticket, a scrap piece of paper with her sister s
address in Van Buren Street, and four dollars in money (Dreiser 1). Such a description describes a
person who is leaving in a rush with little money and only a scribbled address, but someone who longs
for more, as the imitation alligator skin satchel suggests. She wants to convey a bit of wealth in her
appearance and impression even though the bag is imitation. Each of these men become the lovers of
Carrie in the novel, and she was drawn to each of them by her impressions of their appearance, but
first impressions can be wrong and appearances can be falsely portrayed. Carrie first succumbs to
Drouet, becoming his mistress acting falsely as his wife. She is later drawn to Hurstwood because of
his appearance. When Carrie meets her lover Drouet, and later Hurstwood, she compares them,
measuring their financial situation by looking at their clothes (Stanovic 81). Notice that Carrie
describes Drouet s business look as appealing, but Hurstwood s includes the

Descriptive Essay On A Rollercoaster
The 3rd fastest rollercoaster in the world reaches a speed of 120 mph. It s called the Top Thrill
Dragster, and I rode it last summer when we visited Ohio. That one ride taught me that I can do
anything with enough determination. I stared up at the rollercoaster that was as fast as the fastest
cheetah. Ok. I d said the words, now all I had to do was actually ride the rollercoaster. We got in the
neverending line. The sign said it would take at least an hour before we got on the ride. The park had
TVs set up throughout the line, advertising cotton candy, hotdogs, and their app, which puts everyone
on teams that compete each day for points based on how many rides you go on. It also had music
videos, games, trivia, and general information about the park. I could smell funnel cakes and all kinds
of other foods. The line moved slowly, barely moving forward each time the cars went around the
track. The track was short, but loading up the cars took awhile. Every group of people that went on
had to have that quick safety speech. As we got closer to the front, I started sweating. It was already
blazing hot outside, and the sun was burning, but that wasn t why I started sweating. My hands were
sticky with sweat. I was as nervous as a cat. I ve never ridden a ride this fast. By now my mom had
noticed. You sure you want to go on the ride? I thought for a moment. Yes. I was determined to do
this. I was going to ride this rollercoaster. I would ride the third fastest

Britain as an Awkward Partner in the European Community...
Britain as an Awkward Partner in the European Community
Britain emerged from the war in a relatively favourable position, compared to its European
neighbours. In 1946 industrial production was as high as at any time pre war, and increasing quite fast.
By the end of the year exports had regained their pre war level along with this there was little
unemployment and retail prices remained fairly stable. All this contrasted strongly with the situation in
France, Germany and Italy. Indeed in the late 1940 s and into the early 1950 s Britain s economy
performed better then it s European counterparts. Churchill suggested that France and West Germany
should lead the creation of a new Europe for justice, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and steel in Europe.
Right from the conception of the European union Britain has stood aloof from the union being very
cautious and wary. From as far back as the creation of the European Steel and Coal Community in
1952 Britain has shown its unwillingness and reservations about joining Europe. The ECSC was set
up under the Treaty of Paris in 1951 with 6 countries signing. These countries were France, Italy,
Luxemburg, Holland and Belgium. Britain was expected to join the ECSC but this was not the case.
Britain at the time had a far superior economy in strength than the rest of its European counterparts
and felt the union would only inhibit them Economically.
In 1955 a congress was held on the creation of a general customs union, to which Britain did not deem
important enough to send more than a civil servant. However even he was recalled from the
conference. This demonstrated the arrogance of Britain at the time that felt that these Treaties and
agreements did not warrant their involvement. Further adding to their

Rhetorical Analysis Of Pope Francis
I will be analyzing the speech of Pope Francis to a Joint Session of Congress from September of 2015
in Washington, D.C. for my final rhetorical analysis. This speech is important because it addresses
societal issues in the United States and the whole world such as poverty, religion, war, the
environment, immigration, and gun laws. The pope not only addresses the issues, but also
acknowledges many of the marvelous features of America. In this paper, I will provide a summary of
research I found on the context of the speech, the speaker, the audience, and the effects the speech had
on society. Pope Francis is the present day spiritual leader of the Catholic Church, also known as the
bishop of Rome or pontiff. He is the very first pope from Latin American, Argentina specifically, and
is now known as the first pope ever that has addressed Congress. According to the guardian.com, Pope
Francis, electrified Congress with a call for action on climate change, immigration, poverty and capital
punishment, laying down a challenge for the United States to transcend division and rediscover its
ideals (Carroll 1). He addressed these issues and drew a great interest from the audience for fifty one
minutes in the chamber of the House of Representatives. The audience of the speech consisted of a
large number of lawmakers, aides, and invited guests. The New York Times, referenced some of the
people that attended: Sitting behind Francis were Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and House
Speaker John A. Boehner, both Catholics. Flanking the aisle at the front were Secretary of State John
Kerry and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., and not far behind them was Nancy Pelosi, the House
Democratic leader, all Catholics (Baker, Yardley 17). Others in the audience included three other
Supreme Court associate justices, Justice Anthony Kennedy, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Justice
Sonia Sotomayor, other cabinet members, senators, House members, presidential candidates, a few
four star generals, priests, nuns, and bishops. According to the New York Times, the lawmakers
interrupted Pope Francis about thirty times applauding him, causing the speech to run fifty one
minutes when originally scheduled for thirty. *****add

Wireless Networking And Its Impact On The World
In 2016, the majority of networking is done wirelessly. Advancements in technology over the past ten
to fifteen years has allowed us to network wirelessly anywhere in the world. There are remote areas in
the world that do not allow wireless networking due to resources being unavailable, at least for now.
The world of networking is continuously growing. I would predict that with initiatives such as
Facebook s WiFi Drone, WiFi will be available everywhere in the world no matter your location. The
term WiFi is a trademark of the WiFi alliance, a trade association who promotes LAN technologies
and certifies products. The term WiFi was adopted in 1999 as a branding term. It is an acronym for
wireless fidelity. Any device that has a stamp of WiFi certification must meet the IEEE 802.11
standards meaning that the devices capabilities are compatible with other certified devices. In 1985,
the FCC released what is known as the ISM Band for unlicensed use. ISM or Industrial Scientific and
Medical Band, is a radio band reserved for all sorts of devices around the world that serve a purpose in
the title s description. The ISM reserved frequencies that are commonly used today such as 902 928
MHz or 2.4 2.5 GHz for wireless use. Other devices that operate on this frequency such as
microwaves, can interfere with the traffic going across the same frequency. 902 928 MHz is only

Television s Perception Of Zombies
When I think of zombies, I immediately think of the dead still decaying from years of being buried.
They slowly emerge from the grave, and stumble upon their steps as they learn to walk again. It spite
of their slow amble, they somehow manage to lively break into a song and dance lead by the zombie
king himself, Michael Jackson. Ok, so perhaps, that was Jackson s perception of zombies; it does not
negate the fact that they possess no intellectual capacity to critically think for themselves.
Additionally, they are violent and aggressive and will attack anyone who crosses their path. Although
all characters and events [in the video] are fictitious , the epidemic that has infected nearly millions of
people worldwide is real. This contagion is called television (or the media) and it has caused indelible
damage. Television has not only taken control of our bodies and our intellects, but has taken over our
personalities as well. Let s face it; TV has turned us into zombies.
There was a time people relied on conversation or the great outdoors as a form of entertainment.
Before Television invaded our homes, families sat together and ate dinner; they told ghost stories and
danced around the fireplace to Pa s fiddle. They took longs walks down the prairie and were
physically active. Sure that could have been the life of Charles and Caroline Ingalls. However,
because they didn t have television, they were actively involved in their children s lives. Laura and

afraid of being discriminated against just because they do not participate in the board s prayer.
Just last month, a federal court in Cincinnati heard arguments on whether legislative led prayer should
be allowed in public meetings. After hearing about arguments on the separation of church and state,
Washington based lawyer Daniel Blomberg released a press statement saying the disagreements on
religion should not be used as an excuse to boot religion out of the public square, Cincinnati relays.

Bowen Family Systems Theory
The couple I chose for this case study is the older, married couple, Albert and Marion Mazur. I chose
this couple while watching the documentary, Love, Etc. In this documentary, five couples were
followed and featured, among those, Albert and Marion were the couple that displayed complete unity.
Married for over fifty years, these two individuals define Dr. Murray Bowen s family systems theory.
Basically, the theory focuses on whatever occurs in an individual s life affects his or her family. In
order to understand one person in a family, it is imperative to view each individual as a member of the
family. Therefore, the couple s history and marriage will be explored using the Bowen Family
Systems Theory. The concepts of the theory in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, there are, in fact, four parts of the theory connecting and interlocking in a hierarchy system.
Background
Albert and Marion Mazur began their relationship working together as songwriters. They both played
the piano and wrote songs before they actually met. Living less than a mile from each other, their
meeting was not love at first sight, but their mutual love for music. After working together for a few
years, they married. They were happy and in love, yet still continued with their love of songwriting
and making music. Little did they know what the future had in store for them as a couple. Marion s
health began to decline with the early signs of dementia, whereas their roles as they once knew, soon
would be reversed (Andresevic, 2013).
Theoretical Foundation According to Bowen s family system theory, the Mazur s, demonstrated many
of the facets related to the concepts within the hierarchy of the connected systems. First, the concept
of wholeness was evident by their actions when they were together versus apart. Before they were a
couple, they were living as single, independent persons and each would be viewed differently than
when they became a couple. The two of them being together or whole was much greater than
summing them up as parts. Next, their roles and interdependence essentially intertwine when they

milestones. Consequently, cystic fibrosis influences many of her occupations. Attitude has a major
impact on her overall progress of managing this serious, chronic medical challenge. A solid

How Hockey Began In Montreal In The 1980 s
How Hockey Began
Hockey began in Montreal in the 1800 s. It began with a stick a rock and a frozen pond, the game
started spreading around like wildfire, things were being added and changed with every group of
people trying to create there own version of hockey but in the 1850 s the first games of ice hockey
were played, and in the 1870 s, the first set of ice hockey rules were written by a group of students at
McGill University in Montreal.
These rules set up the use of a puck replacing a ball and decided the number of players to be nine per
team. In the 1880 s the first organization of the first amateur hockey league was created. Over the next
several years, ice hockey s popularity spread over all of Canada. It was around 1893 that ice

Womanhood In Henry James s The Portrait Of A Lady
To a forward thinking woman of the Victorian era, the concept that a novel written by a man could
illustrate so vividly the thoughts and natures of women would have been foreign. Yet such a novel
exists, one that spins a web of morality and human frailty so intensely that the reader emerges with a
thousand questions in their mind. Henry James, often referred to as the master , took upon himself the
task of creating such a novel, one that could skillfully capture the female spirit as well as reveal the
Victorian society s flawed idea of wifehood. He succeeded, producing the serial The Portrait of a Lady
in 1881. Though The Portrait of a Lady is renowned for its psychological realism and rebellion against
conventionalism, more expertly depicted is James accurate portrayal of Victorian society and
womanhood. His approach is profoundly feminist and reveals the toxicity and inequity of its era to a
high degree. James employment of his subtle wit is on full display with his interpretation of the
dysfunctionality concerning the concept of an ideal woman. In fact, he creates several female
characters, all of whom are manifestations of the different lives women could inhabit during the
Victorian era. In addition, the aforementioned characters are refreshingly three dimensional. Their
flaws do not diminish the story in fact, those defaults enhance the plot. James depiction of a woman s
life and choices is then embodied in the frequently discussed ending of the novel. The

The Death Of Joaquin Guzman
Today, the government has fifty five year old Joaquin Archivaldo Chapo Guzman Loera as their most
wanted criminal in Mexico. He also has become most wanted in the United States since the death of
Bin Laden. Known to be the biggest drug lord, Guzman runs the largest drug cartel known as the
Sinaloa Cartel. Government officials here in the U.S., for example, one of our potential candidates
running for presidency, Donald Trump, wants Joaquin Guzman behind bars. He wishes this not only
because of the drug trafficking and deaths that have occurred but because the sons of Joaquin Guzman
threatened him on Twitter after the many racist remarks he made toward Mexicans. Although officials
in Mexico and the United States see Joaquin Guzman as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the early 90 s, Guzman s business began to rise so much that he started taking over where the
Medellin cartel left off, shortly after the death of Pablo Escobar, the biggest drug dealer in Columbia.
The DEA and FBI were now watching him. Arrested in 1993 by Guatemalan authorities, he was
transferred into Mexican detainment and displayed his power bribing prison guards in order to arrange
visits and meetings to continue his drug business even while incarcerated. He later on escaped prison
by hiding in a laundry cart that was being pushed out of the prison after bribing the prison guards. As
years passed, his business only demonstrated growth. By 2009, Sinaloa was pulling in roughly three
billion U.S. dollars annually. He has escaped prison twice more and is currently roaming free. The
Mexican government has been close to arresting him again shortly after his escape, but he got away
again. American officials claim Guzman to be responsible for the death and destruction of millions of
lives across the globe through drug addiction, violence, and corruption, states the Attorney General
Holder, but citizens of Culiacan, Mexico say that is just an illusion. U.S. officials have tried to get
Mexico to bring him into American land to keep him under extreme lock down, however, the Mexican
government denied. I could

The Physics Of Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein Most people know who Albert Einstein is and how great of a physicist he was, yet
many aren t aware that Albert Einstein had not even finished high school! Most would think that a
person who doesn t complete high school is dumb, and lazy. The fact is, Einstein did not complete
high school, not because he was dumb or lazy. At the age of 15, he quit high school because he did not
agree with the way the teachers taught. He thought that the teacher s weren t teaching in a way that
didn t allow students to freely question or use their creative imagination. Einstein once said Reality is
merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one. By this he shows that he isn t for seeing things the way
they seem, and he tends to think deeper into things. He shows that he keeps his mind open, open to
learn new things that can t be noticed by a simple glance. Many would also think that one who drops
out of high school may not go anywhere in life. Einstein won a Nobel Prize in Physics, a Gold Medal
of The Royal Astronomical Society, and many other awards. Even if Einstein never even finished high
school, his creation of the equation E = mc2, theory of relativity, and theory of light led the way to
him becoming known as the father of modern physics. Albert Einstein was Born in Ulm,
Württemberg, Germany in 1879. He was the son of Hermann Einstein, a salesman and engineer who
was the head of Elektrotechnische Fabrik J. Einstein

The Federal Government Of The United States
The federal government of the United States of America faces lots of challenges through their
operations. American citizens desire to witness several changes that can boost their lives under
different fields of life. It goes without being mentioned that the stiff economic competition on the
market in the current era plays a crucial role in mobilizing the masses to embrace or deter from several
existing issues. Therefore, different governments have to analyze the demands and pleas of the local
common citizens before implementing laws and specific management strategies. It is essential to note
that not all of the implemented strategies might positively affect the lives of the common citizens. The
leadership of a running government can be full self centered people who might want to discriminate
the weak in the society by making laws which favor their operations. With this in mind, there is
always a high probability of rebellion from people at the lower levels in the society who protest for the
stabilization of laws to fit in with their desires and demands. The purpose of this paper is to highlight
how protests from citizens have been part and parcel of politics in the United States of America
between the year1900 and 2010.
The United States of America is today a super power nation that controls major activities in the entire
globe. However, despite her superior status there are several historical social economic issues that
taint her image in the international platform. To

Families on the Home Front during WWII by Ewa Bieciuk
HIST 2200 U.S. History Since 1877
Summer 2015
Prof. Hardin September 1st, 1939 is a day that changed the course of history. Lives were lost, families
ripped apart, towns destroyed, and jobs were created. World War II had just begun with the majority of
the main countries in our world participating in the war that would ultimately kill millions of soldiers
and civilians. Two years later, on December 8th, 1941 after the Japanese surprisingly attacked Pearl
Harbor, the United States entered the war fully. During this time, the U.S. enlisted the help of the
entire nation; soldiers, factory workers, nurses, and doctors were required both overseas and on the
home front. While many men were sent to fight over seas or prepare at combat training on bases in the
U.S., factories and other business were left with a shortage of workers. World War II encouraged, or
more accurately, forced, women and wives to leave their homes to begin working. A familiar image
that many Americans are familiar with is of the women flexing announcing We Can Do It! , which is
greatly recognized as a symbol of the female presence in the workforce. Young adults dropped out of
school to help out in numerous ways. The amount of children working also increased greatly.
Desperate measures to save money and help in the wartime effort lead to many drastic changes in
roles and lifestyles of American families on the home front.

The s Secret Model By Cameron Russell
Victoria s Secret Model, Cameron Russell, delivered one of the most profound TED Talks delivered
on the Mid Atlantic stage, according to TED writer Cameron Gallo. The model explains that though
the modeling industry considered her a perfect, she does not believe her appearance defines her. Thus
she came up with the title for her speech, Looks Aren t Everything... Believe Me, I m a Model. . She
specifically addresses that children need to understand that modeling does not constitute a glamorous
career. The industry drowns out personal values, views, and appearances to warp these characteristics
into a general image accepted by the masses, according to Russell. She describes her view on
modeling, and how it essentially made her feel like a hard shell of a person with no inner value. She
ended by encouraging people to find a balance between outward appearance and inner beauty.
Looks Aren t Everything.... Believe Me, I m a Model is categorized as TED talk. These talks are
powered by nonprofit organizations dedicated to spreading ideas, in the form of speeches,
demonstrations, and videos. Richard Saul Wormac, describes the talks as observations and recognition
of a powerful convergence among three fields: technology, entertainment and design (Gallo 3). World
class speakers perform 18 20 minute presentations, within the three fields. Cameron Russell addresses
each individual field in her speech, not limiting herself to one specific category. Modeling developed a

Florida Aquifer System
Next we will discuss the Florida Aquifer System. There are many factors that contribute to the storage
and movement of ground water, porosity and permeability are the two most important elements to this
equation (Lutgens, 2012.) Porosity is the volume of open space between rock or sediment and
permeability is the ability for a fluid to pass through (Lutgens, 2012.) Rock and sediments that allow
groundwater to travel freely are called aquifers. These aquifers are natural resources that exist
underneath the earths surface to store water. In the case of Florida s aquifer system the system is
considered to be one of the most productive in the world (USGS, n.d.) In its entirety, the aquifer
system underlies an area of about 100,000 square miles

Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH)
In late 2001, an amateur astronomer happened upon an uncharacteristically bright object in the
Monocerotis constellation (Figure 1). Over the next several months the object went through periods of
intense brightness the likes of which had rarely been seen before. My research this summer was to use
a computer simulation to better understand what may have caused this strange event known as V838
Mon. In order to understand what may have caused the bright outbursts, it is necessary to try and
make a model of the event that caused them. To make this model, we implement a Smoothed Particle
Hydrodynamics (SPH) code called Starsmasher. The code calculates the movements of many small
particles to replicate the movement of a fluid, such as a liquid or ... Show more content on

Also, an ever present goal is to make the simulation more physically accurate to achieve the best
results possible without spending too much computation time. The beginning of my research was
spent adjusting the conditions to try to fit an outcome that we wanted. The outcomes included how
many times the two stars would collide, the times between when the stars collided, and the peak in the
brightness of the system. The latter half of my research project was spent primarily trying to improve
different aspects of the simulation code. Primarily how transparent the gases should be at different
distances to the center of the collision. The transparencies can change how bright the star is measured
to be as well as the temperature of the star, two very important sets of data for modelling. It depends
on the types of gases and molecules present in the system and the temperature and radiation near those
molecules. This gives the simulation a better match to what the astronomers actually observed (Figure
2). I increased the speed of a splotting routine tenfold and we are working on a method to better
resolve the distance of different gases in the collision at different times. This faster splot will not only
be useful for my research, it will also be used in a majority of future projects carried out in the

Epidemiological Studies Essay
One of the most useful outcomes of studying epidemiology is learning how to evaluate critically the
scientific literature (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). Critical assessment of this literature is an important
skill for public health professionals because the findings of epidemiologic research inform so many
activities (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). Munnoch et al. (2008) done epidemiological studies on
S.Saintpaul infection occurred in Australia during October 2006 and found that cantaloupe production
and processing practices pose a potential public health threat requiring regulatory and community
education interventions. Based on main journal article written upon this subject, this article will
analyse how epidemiological research has helped us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Munnoch et al.2008 the objective of study was cleared that consumption of cantaloupe
was directly linked to the infection and hypothesis study done was relevant because it states that
cantaloupe was consumed more frequently by cases than expected when compared with the food
consumption data for controls from an Australian Campylobacter case control study. So study
identified a strong epidemiological association between S.Saintapaul infection and consumption of
cantaloupe, with cases being 23 times more likely to have consumed cantaloupe in the 4 days prior to
onset of illness than controls. As there were so many people involved in the research so study done
was observational study, as no action was taken to change the health outcome people were simply
observed (Webb Bain, 2011). The study design used to measure in terms of hypothesis generation
method and observational study was useful.
STUDY PARAMETERS
Research exposure
Observational study design examined on the basis of exposure and health outcome. The exposure of
interest is the factor that either causes, Prevents, or treats the outcome. It is important to consider
whether the exposure was accurately defined and measured because exposure misclassification stems
from broad definitions and inaccurate measurements. (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). According to
Munnoch et al. (2008), study conducted to investigate the S.Saintapaul infection

  • 4. Application Virtualization For A Virtual Machine Monitor (... 1. Introduction Virtualization is a term used to describe technology that uses abstraction to instruct a guest operating system, data storage, or network device to use underlying shared hardware or software as described by Pearce et al. [1]. Abstraction is managed at a software layer known as a virtual machine monitor (VMM) or hypervisor. The VMM or hypervisor emulates hardware to guest operating systems and applications, which includes core processor unit (CPU), memory, input/output (I/O), and network traffic [1, pp.2]. There are different areas of virtualization, which include server virtualization, application virtualization, network virtualization, storage virtualization, and desktop virtualization [1, pp.8]. The branching out of virtualization into different areas displays the rapid growth of this technology. The VMM and hypervisor software layer provides security challenges that should be addressed in order to protect resources and data within virtualization. For example, this additional layer of technology opens up new paths which an attacker can use to break into and interrupt a system or network. The VMM can also be a single point of failure in a virtualized environment [1, pp. 33]. If the VMM is compromised, then the virtual environment managed by the VMM could be compromised as well. The primary focus of this literature review will be physical hosts, which are VMMs and hypervisors managing a virtualization environment. The Important Ideas section will ... Before the company was liquidated 6 years after inception, the company was making revenue of $2 Million annually with 75 staff. Some very interesting questions come to mind and we will be discussing them at length. The questions are: Why did Monique Mandy fail to launch a new innovation in Tanzania? What effect did country and market conditions have on this? What is the importance of social capital and networks in entrepreneurship? Did Monique learn out of this failure? What would she do or avoid next time? Without discussing and address these questions, this paper would not have properly analyzed the Adesemi Failure as it were. THE MAIN REPORT The Company Adesemi Adesemi, an American start up in Africa, had been trying for six years to blanket the developing world with desperately needed wireless communications services. Psychoactive Drugs Can Have On An Individual s Brain To fully understand the affects that psychoactive drugs can have on an individual s brain, one has to first define the term, dissect the history and use, know what factors cause addiction, and what leads to drug dependency. What is a psychoactive drug? A psychoactive drug, psycho pharmaceutical, or psychotropic is a chemical substance that changes brain function and results in alterations in perception, mood, or consciousness (drug, n.d). Typically the term drug alone can be seen or associated with a positive or negative view. One of the most popular forms of opium used today medically is morphine. Although opioids are the most effective medication in aiding chronic pain and many other issues, it has been given a bad rap as a very addictive substance when not monitored correctly or taken in moderation. What causes addiction? .No one single factor can determine why psychoactive drugs have a tendency to become addictive. On the contrary the more risk factors a person has, the greater the chance that taking drugs will lead to abuse and addiction. Learned behavior such as classical learning is one factor that can lead to addiction and later abuse. Through classical conditioning one can pair the pleasure of addictive substances or activities with environmental cues. For example, suppose someone smokes a cigarette in their car after work. The enjoyment of smoking a cigarette forms a paired association with riding in the car, as well as the time frame after work . By repeatedly pairing cigarettes with car, and cigarettes after work, both the car and after work will become cues to smoke cigarettes. Then these cues (getting into the car, getting off work) may create powerful cravings for nicotine. Another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States government has had a major role in the coming about of the struggles that persist for Native Americans to this day. As crime and poverty grip the Sioux tribe, they will continue to lose their traditional culture and move farther from who they once were as a people. I will first review how European explorers introduced alcohol to Native American tribes and how this lead to a strong prevalence of alcoholism in the Sioux tribe. Next I will discuss the U.S. government s use of forced assimilation and boarding schools led to the loss of Native American culture and customs. This led to more anger of the Sioux tribe towards the U.S. government and to outer society as a whole. Third I will analyze the living conditions and complacency felt by the Sioux tribe as seen through the photographs and interviews conducted by journalist Aaron Huey. Lastly, I will assess the efforts taken by the elders and leaders of the Sioux tribe to combat the prevalence of crime on their reservation. Just as some types of people are more likely to suffer from skin cancer because of UV exposure, some types of people have a better than average chance of suffering from UV related eye damage. This report will address the main physics involved and mathematic formulae that prove how airplanes get above the ground from a small fighter jet to a massive Boeing 747. The necessities involved in keeping there massive weights in the air and the extreme forces needed to land these airplanes and bring them to a halt will also be explored. Firstly, the formula F = ma, where F is force, m being mass and a meaning acceleration. This formula is used in the design stage of airplanes but in a different format, a = F/m. This meaning that for the acceleration to be greater F and m needs to be changed, this would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This clearly shows that the greater the force and the smaller the mass go towards making the acceleration greater. Another formula that s used is, a = v u/t, a meaning acceleration, v being average velocity, u as initial velocity and where t is equal to time. So lets assume that the initial velocity of the airplane is zero and its average velocity is at 6.7 x 101 m s 1 and the airplane has been traveling at this velocity for 10 seconds, so a = (6.7 x 101 0)/10 = 6.7 m s 2. This would then require a runway of 6.7 x 102 metres in length and obviously for the velocity to become greater a longer runway and greater acceleration would have to be a necessity. This formula would then be used, at = v u, now the acceleration of the airplane is increased to 1.2 x 101 m s 2 and the time measured is increased to 12 seconds. In a formula it looks like this, (1.2 x 101 m s 2) x (12 s)= 144 m s 1. We can determine the distance of the runway by using this formula, d = vt, this means d=144 m s 1 x 12= 1.73 x 103 m. This shows why a larger runway is a lot more beneficial to an airplane and results in the plane reaching its needed speed. By making a runway longer this dramatically increases the safety, if a runway was not long enough the airplanes would not be able to reach the needed speed to leave the ground but ... Though Hitler s rise to power certainly was not peaceful, it did not solely rely on violence. • 31. Sister Carrie Character Analysis In Sister Carrie, Dreiser uses very detailed descriptions of characters and their appearance. These are not empty descriptions, each description of the clothes is so convincing that it plays with the readers senses allowing them to visualize a dynamic cinematic picture (Stankovic 79). For example, Carrie s total outfit consisted of a small trunk, a cheap imitation alligator skin satchel, a small lunch in a paper box, and a yellow leather snap purse, containing her ticket, a scrap piece of paper with her sister s address in Van Buren Street, and four dollars in money (Dreiser 1). Such a description describes a person who is leaving in a rush with little money and only a scribbled address, but someone who longs for more, as the imitation alligator skin satchel suggests. She wants to convey a bit of wealth in her appearance and impression even though the bag is imitation. Each of these men become the lovers of Carrie in the novel, and she was drawn to each of them by her impressions of their appearance, but first impressions can be wrong and appearances can be falsely portrayed. Carrie first succumbs to Drouet, becoming his mistress acting falsely as his wife. She is later drawn to Hurstwood because of his appearance. When Carrie meets her lover Drouet, and later Hurstwood, she compares them, measuring their financial situation by looking at their clothes (Stanovic 81). It s called the Top Thrill Dragster, and I rode it last summer when we visited Ohio. That one ride taught me that I can do anything with enough determination. I stared up at the rollercoaster that was as fast as the fastest cheetah. Ok. I d said the words, now all I had to do was actually ride the rollercoaster. We got in the neverending line. The sign said it would take at least an hour before we got on the ride. The park had TVs set up throughout the line, advertising cotton candy, hotdogs, and their app, which puts everyone on teams that compete each day for points based on how many rides you go on. It also had music videos, games, trivia, and general information about the park. I could smell funnel cakes and all kinds of other foods. The line moved slowly, barely moving forward each time the cars went around the track. The track was short, but loading up the cars took awhile. Every group of people that went on had to have that quick safety speech. As we got closer to the front, I started sweating. It was already blazing hot outside, and the sun was burning, but that wasn t why I started sweating. My hands were sticky with sweat. I was as nervous as a cat. I ve never ridden a ride this fast. This speech is important because it addresses societal issues in the United States and the whole world such as poverty, religion, war, the environment, immigration, and gun laws. The pope not only addresses the issues, but also acknowledges many of the marvelous features of America. In this paper, I will provide a summary of research I found on the context of the speech, the speaker, the audience, and the effects the speech had on society. Pope Francis is the present day spiritual leader of the Catholic Church, also known as the bishop of Rome or pontiff. He is the very first pope from Latin American, Argentina specifically, and is now known as the first pope ever that has addressed Congress. According to the guardian.com, Pope Francis, electrified Congress with a call for action on climate change, immigration, poverty and capital punishment, laying down a challenge for the United States to transcend division and rediscover its ideals (Carroll 1). He addressed these issues and drew a great interest from the audience for fifty one minutes in the chamber of the House of Representatives. The audience of the speech consisted of a large number of lawmakers, aides, and invited guests. The New York Times, referenced some of the people that attended: Sitting behind Francis were Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and House Speaker John A. Boehner, both Catholics. Flanking the aisle at the front were Secretary of State John Kerry and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., and not far behind them was Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader, all Catholics (Baker, Yardley 17). Others in the audience included three other Supreme Court associate justices, Justice Anthony Kennedy, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Justice Sonia Sotomayor, other cabinet members, senators, House members, presidential candidates, a few four star generals, priests, nuns, and bishops. Theoretical Foundation According to Bowen s family system theory, the Mazur s, demonstrated many of the facets related to the concepts within the hierarchy of the connected systems. First, the concept of wholeness was evident by their actions when they were together versus apart. Before they were a couple, they were living as single, independent persons and each would be viewed differently than when they became a couple. Womanhood In Henry James s The Portrait Of A Lady To a forward thinking woman of the Victorian era, the concept that a novel written by a man could illustrate so vividly the thoughts and natures of women would have been foreign. Yet such a novel exists, one that spins a web of morality and human frailty so intensely that the reader emerges with a thousand questions in their mind. Henry James, often referred to as the master , took upon himself the task of creating such a novel, one that could skillfully capture the female spirit as well as reveal the Victorian society s flawed idea of wifehood. He succeeded, producing the serial The Portrait of a Lady in 1881. Though The Portrait of a Lady is renowned for its psychological realism and rebellion against conventionalism, more expertly depicted is James accurate portrayal of Victorian society and womanhood. His approach is profoundly feminist and reveals the toxicity and inequity of its era to a high degree. James employment of his subtle wit is on full display with his interpretation of the dysfunctionality concerning the concept of an ideal woman. In fact, he creates several female characters, all of whom are manifestations of the different lives women could inhabit during the Victorian era. Lives were lost, families ripped apart, towns destroyed, and jobs were created. World War II had just begun with the majority of the main countries in our world participating in the war that would ultimately kill millions of soldiers and civilians. Two years later, on December 8th, 1941 after the Japanese surprisingly attacked Pearl Harbor, the United States entered the war fully. • 52. The s Secret Model By Cameron Russell Victoria s Secret Model, Cameron Russell, delivered one of the most profound TED Talks delivered on the Mid Atlantic stage, according to TED writer Cameron Gallo. The model explains that though the modeling industry considered her a perfect, she does not believe her appearance defines her. Thus she came up with the title for her speech, Looks Aren t Everything... Believe Me, I m a Model. . She specifically addresses that children need to understand that modeling does not constitute a glamorous career. The industry drowns out personal values, views, and appearances to warp these characteristics into a general image accepted by the masses, according to Russell. She describes her view on modeling, and how it essentially made her feel like a hard shell of a person with no inner value. She ended by encouraging people to find a balance between outward appearance and inner beauty. Looks Aren t Everything.... Believe Me, I m a Model is categorized as TED talk. These talks are powered by nonprofit organizations dedicated to spreading ideas, in the form of speeches, demonstrations, and videos. Richard Saul Wormac, describes the talks as observations and recognition of a powerful convergence among three fields: technology, entertainment and design (Gallo 3). World class speakers perform 18 20 minute presentations, within the three fields. Cameron Russell addresses each individual field in her speech, not limiting herself to one specific category. • 53. Florida Aquifer System Next we will discuss the Florida Aquifer System. There are many factors that contribute to the storage and movement of ground water, porosity and permeability are the two most important elements to this equation (Lutgens, 2012.) Porosity is the volume of open space between rock or sediment and permeability is the ability for a fluid to pass through (Lutgens, 2012.) Rock and sediments that allow groundwater to travel freely are called aquifers. These aquifers are natural resources that exist underneath the earths surface to store water. In the case of Florida s aquifer system the system is considered to be one of the most productive in the world (USGS, n.d.) In its entirety, the aquifer system underlies an area of about 100,000 square miles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) In late 2001, an amateur astronomer happened upon an uncharacteristically bright object in the Monocerotis constellation (Figure 1). Over the next several months the object went through periods of intense brightness the likes of which had rarely been seen before. My research this summer was to use a computer simulation to better understand what may have caused this strange event known as V838 Mon. In order to understand what may have caused the bright outbursts, it is necessary to try and make a model of the event that caused them. To make this model, we implement a Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) code called Starsmasher. The code calculates the movements of many small particles to replicate the movement of a fluid, such as a liquid or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, an ever present goal is to make the simulation more physically accurate to achieve the best results possible without spending too much computation time. The beginning of my research was spent adjusting the conditions to try to fit an outcome that we wanted. The outcomes included how many times the two stars would collide, the times between when the stars collided, and the peak in the brightness of the system. The latter half of my research project was spent primarily trying to improve different aspects of the simulation code. Primarily how transparent the gases should be at different distances to the center of the collision. The transparencies can change how bright the star is measured to be as well as the temperature of the star, two very important sets of data for modelling. It depends on the types of gases and molecules present in the system and the temperature and radiation near those molecules. This gives the simulation a better match to what the astronomers actually observed (Figure 2). I increased the speed of a splotting routine tenfold and we are working on a method to better resolve the distance of different gases in the collision at different times. This faster splot will not only be useful for my research, it will also be used in a majority of future projects carried out in the research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Epidemiological Studies Essay One of the most useful outcomes of studying epidemiology is learning how to evaluate critically the scientific literature (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). Critical assessment of this literature is an important skill for public health professionals because the findings of epidemiologic research inform so many activities (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). Munnoch et al. (2008) done epidemiological studies on S.Saintpaul infection occurred in Australia during October 2006 and found that cantaloupe production and processing practices pose a potential public health threat requiring regulatory and community education interventions. Based on main journal article written upon this subject, this article will analyse how epidemiological research has helped us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Munnoch et al.2008 the objective of study was cleared that consumption of cantaloupe was directly linked to the infection and hypothesis study done was relevant because it states that cantaloupe was consumed more frequently by cases than expected when compared with the food consumption data for controls from an Australian Campylobacter case control study. So study identified a strong epidemiological association between S.Saintapaul infection and consumption of cantaloupe, with cases being 23 times more likely to have consumed cantaloupe in the 4 days prior to onset of illness than controls. As there were so many people involved in the research so study done was observational study, as no action was taken to change the health outcome people were simply observed (Webb Bain, 2011). The study design used to measure in terms of hypothesis generation method and observational study was useful. STUDY PARAMETERS Research exposure Observational study design examined on the basis of exposure and health outcome. The exposure of interest is the factor that either causes, Prevents, or treats the outcome. It is important to consider whether the exposure was accurately defined and measured because exposure misclassification stems from broad definitions and inaccurate measurements. (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). According to Munnoch et al. (2008), study conducted to investigate the S.Saintapaul infection ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
