1. Use tooling (C) and (D) in order to place transmission (13). Install four bolts (14). The
weight of transmission (13) is 227 kg (500 lb).
2. Install twelve bolts (12) .

3. Connect wires (10) and (11) .

6. Install plug (6) .
7. Install two bolts (7) .
8. Connect three electrical connectors (5) and install the strap.
9. Connect seven electrical connectors (3). Install three straps (4) .

10. Remove tooling (B) from front axle (2) .
11. Remove tooling (A) from rear frame (1) .
12. Fill the transmission with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance, SEBU7399,
"Capacities" for the proper capacity.

End By:
a. Install the front drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Front) -
Remove and Install".
b. Install the rear drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Rear) -
Remove and Install".
c. Install the piston pump. Refer to Disassembly and AssemblyRENR3585, "Piston Pump
(Implement and Steering) - Install".

2. Remove four bolts (2) and remove guard (1). The weight of guard (1) is 30 kg (65 lb).
3. Remove four bolts (4) and two collars (3) from each end of drive shaft (5). Remove drive
shaft (5) .

2. Use tool (A) in order to install guard (1) .

Assembly procedure
1. Install rear drive shaft (4). Install two collars (3) and four bolts (2) .

3. Tighten bolts (1) in the sequence that is indicated. Tighten bolts (1) to 130 ± 20 N·m (96 ±
15 lb ft).

Parking Brake - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

1. Pull floormat (1) away from cover (2) in order to expose the screws (3) .
2. Remove screws (3) and cover (2) .
Parking brake lever assembly
(4) Clip
(5) Pin
(6) Cable
(7) Clip
3. Remove clip (4) and pin (5). Squeeze clip (7) together. Pull cable (6) out of the parking
brake assembly.

4. Remove three bolts (8) and parking brake lever assembly (9) .
The parking brake assembly is located on the rear drive shaft.

5. Remove clip (10) and pin (11) .
6. Remove circlip (12). Separate the cable from the bracket.
7. Remove two bolts and washers (13) and remove the bracket.

8. Remove two bolts and washers (14). Remove caliper (15) .
9. Remove three bolts (16), three washers (17), and bracket (18) .
10. Remove the parking brake cable through the floorplate in the cab.
1. Install the parking brake cable through the floorplate in the cab.

2. Install bracket (18), three washers (17), and three bolts (16) .
3. Install caliper (15). Install two bolts and washers (14) .

The parking brake assembly is located on the rear drive shaft.

4. Install the bracket for the parking brake cable. Install two bolts and washers (13) which
retain the bracket.
5. Insert the cable in the bracket. Install circlip (12) .
6. Install pin (11) and clip (10) in the cable assembly.
7. Install parking brake lever assembly (9) and install three bolts (8) .

8. Install cable (6) in the parking brake assembly. Expand clip (7) .

Tie Rod (Steering)(Front) - Remove and Install

Start By:
A. Remove the axle from the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive and
Steering Axle (Front) - Remove".
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.
Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the
engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is
not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.
Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and
the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil
filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool
enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop
Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Secure the axle onto Tooling (A) .

2. Loosen nut (1), but do not remove nut (1) from the tie rod end on the right side.
3. Remove nut (2) from the tie rod end on the left side.
4. Use a brass drift to remove the tie rod end (3) on the left side of the machine.

5. Use a heat gun to heat the joint between the steering cylinder rod (4) and the rod assembly
(5) .
6. Separate the tie rod (5) on the left side from the steering cylinder rod (4) .
7. Repeat Steps 3, 4, 5, and 6 for the tie rod on the right side of the axle.

1. Connect the tie rod (5) on the left side to the steering cylinder rod (4). Tighten the joint to a
torque of 300 N·m (221 lb ft) for the front axle. Tighten the joint to a torque of 258 N·m
(190 lb ft) for the rear axle.
2. Use a brass drift to install the tie rod end (3) on the left side of the machine.

3. Install nut (2) onto the tie rod end on the left side. Tighten to a torque of 165 N·m (122 lb ft)
for the front axle. Tighten to a torque of 250 N·m (184 lb ft) for the rear axle.
4. Repeat Steps 1, 2, and 3 for the tie rod on the right side of the axle.
End By: Install the axle onto the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive and
Steering Axle (Front) - Install".
