This document analyzes the significance of tourism on Sri Lanka's economy from 1970 to 2008 using an econometric analysis. It aims to estimate the relationship between economic performance, tourism revenue, and key macroeconomic and political stability variables. The study finds that tourism plays a crucial role in Sri Lanka's economy by generating income, foreign exchange, and employment opportunities. However, the country's civil war and political instability periodically disrupted tourism. The study recommends emphasizing tourism's role in sustainable economic development within a stable political environment.
