To you and I Monday is just another May bank holiday. But to the A-List it’s one of the biggest nights out of the year. They’ll be pampering, prepping and the red carpet will be rolled out once again as the Met Gala returns to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

What is the 2025 Met Gala theme?
The annual event orchestrated by Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, celebrates the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, which this year centers around the political and aesthetic constructs of Black dandyism. The showcase, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, opens to the public on May 10 until October 26.

This year’s Met Gala dress code chosen by the curator in charge of the Costume Institute, Andrew Bolton, is called Tailored for You, in connection with this landmark exhibition.

Who are the 2025 Met Gala co-chairs?
The co-chairs host the Met Gala. This year actor Colman Domingo, Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky and musician, record producer and Louis Vuitton men's creative director Pharrell Williams are all on the roster. American basketball player LeBron James will also be acting as honorary chair.

As for the guest list, it’s typically star studded and tightly guarded until the event itself, but in 2024 the likes of Dua Lipa, Kim kardashian and Jennifer Lopez walked the carpet in couture gowns. Zendaya actually walked it twice in two different John Galliano looks. The singer Tyla wore a dress made of sand, which meant she had to be carried up the famous museum steps by footmen in order to avoid ripping it.

This year you can expect even more drama, around 600 people will attend and athletes such as Simone Biles and Sha’Carri Richardson are said to be among them.
What happens at the Met Gala?
In true Met Gala style the glamorous arrivals will go on for around three hours. If you’re wondering what actually happens at the gala itself, it’s kept secret. Phones at the table are discouraged, along with social media. Although the real party reportedly happens in the bathrooms: in 2017 Bella Hadid and Dakota Johnson were pictured smoking in cubicles.
