The document discusses two models of listening: the Brooks Listening Model and the Goss Listening Model. The Brooks Listening Model identifies three stages of listening: hearing, identifying and recognizing, and auding. Hearing refers to receiving sound waves through the ear. Identifying and recognizing is recognizing patterns and relationships. Auding is translating words into meaning. The Goss Listening Model also has three stages: signal processing, literal processing, and reflective processing. Signal processing transmits the message. Literal processing takes the words at face value. Reflective processing listens to evaluate.
