Wide Area Network (WAN): WAN stands for Wide Area Network. It is a type of
computer network that spans a large geographic area, such as a state, country,
or even multiple countries. WANs are used to connect LANs or MANs that are
located in different geographic locations, allowing users and devices to
communicate with each other over long distances. WANs can be established
using various technologies, such as leased lines, satellite links, or the internet.
One of the primary benefits of WANs is their ability to provide high-speed
connectivity over large distances. They allow for the transfer of data, voice, and
video across different locations, making it possible for businesses, organizations,
and individuals to communicate and collaborate even if they are located in
different parts of the world. WANs are used by a wide range of organizations,
including corporations, government agencies, universities, and researchi
institutions, to share information, resources, and applications across different
locations.
