f. Review
Grade 3 do you still remember our last
topic, last meeting?

Yes teacher

Very good! So what was our last topic

last meeting? Anyone from the class,

Yes Jaira?

Teacher it’s all about perimeter.

Yes correct!

So class what is perimeter?

Yes Pamela?
Teacher perimeter is the distance around the
shape.
Very good! So how can we find the
perimeter around the shape? Any one
from the class? Teacher ( raised hand)

Yes Mina?
Teacher we add together the length and the
width of all the side of the shape.
Very good,

Let’s say you have a book that is 20

centimeters long and 15 centimeters
wide.
What is the perimeter of the book?

Yes Richelle. Ma’am , the perimeter of the book is 70

centimeters.

Very Good!

Another problem: You have a square

garden with sides of 5 meters each.
What is the perimeter of the garden?
Ma’am , the perimeter of the garden is 20
Yes Mitch. meters.

Very Good! since you remember our

last topic and you can solved it, we can
now proceed to our next lesson.

B. Establishing purpose for the lesson

Class, have you ever wondered
how much space you need to
make sure your books fits in your
table? How can you figure out?

Let’s have an activity called “The

Book Table Challenge”

I have here a piece of book and a

table who wants to measure how
much books we need in order to
covered the table?
(Raise their hands)

Yes Mark

Very Good.

Now that we have a basic

understanding of area, we’re
going to learn more about how to
calculate it.
Change .. provide activity
C. Presenting examples/ instances of the new lesson

Here are some examples of real-world examples

of area and perimeter.

A picture frame

Who can tell me what a picture frame is?

Ma’am a picture frame is a border around a picture.
That’s right! A picture frame holds a picture.
But why do we used picture frames? To make the picture look good/nice ma’am.

Very good! Yes, that’s one reason. Picture frames

can make a picture look more special.
But what else do they do? Teacher to keep the picture safe.

Nice one! That is a great point! It also protect the

picture from getting damaged or dirty.
What else can you think of? Ma’am to show off my favorite pictures.

That’s a good one! We put picture frame around

the picture we want to show off, like pictures of
our family or our friends. What else? To remember things from the past ma’am.

Wow! That’s a great answer. It also helps us to

remember important moment in our lives. They
can hold pictures of special events, like birthdays,
wedding of your parents or vacations. So picture
frames are a great way to make our pictures look
nice, keep them safe, and remind us of happy
memories.

Now, aside from that what have you observed on Ma’am that picture frame has a 4 sides.
that picture frame relating to our topic for today?

Yes, very good

Ma’am, the sides are not all equal
What else?

Yes, the 4 sides are not equal

Okay, what else?

(Students will answer)

Ok! Based on the activity that we did, what do

you think is our next topic for today?
Teacher it’s all about Area
Yes Chulyanna

Very good! But before we proceed to our

lesson, I have here my objectives, can you all
read our objectives for this day.

a. Identify the concept of the area

a. Identify the concept of the area b. Give the area of two dimensional
b. Give the area of two dimensional figures, and
figures, and c. Solve word problem.
c. Solve word problem.

Yes Teacher!
Alright! Are you ready to listen class?

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing and concern to new skills #1

Alright, class! We're going to learn about
something called 'area'! Area is like the amount of
space something takes up. Think of it like a big Lots!
puzzle. How many puzzle pieces would it take to
cover the whole picture frame?

That's right! To figure out how many puzzle

pieces, we need to measure the length and width
of the picture frame.

Formula: Area = length x width

(Teacher holds up a ruler) This is a ruler, and it

helps us measure things in centimeters. Let's
pretend the length of our picture frame is 10
centimeters. That means we could fit 10 of these
little centimeter marks across the top of the
frame.

(Teacher marks 10 centimeters on the board or a

piece of paper) Now, let's say the width of the
frame is 8 centimeters. We could fit 8 of these
centimeter marks across the side.

(Teacher marks 8 centimeters on the board or

paper) To find the area, we multiply the length
and the width. So, 10 centimeters times 8
centimeters equals 80 square centimeters!

(Teacher writes 10 cm x 8 cm = 80 cm² on the Wow, that's a lot of squares ma’am!

board) That means it would take 80 little square
pieces to cover the whole picture frame!

It is! And that's what area tells us - how much

space something covers. We measure area in
square units, like square centimeters (cm²) or
square inches (in²).

Now, let's try another one. If the length of a (Students work together or individually to calculate
picture frame is 12 centimeters and the width is 5 the area)
centimeters, what's its area? Think about it, and
then tell me!

Great job everyone! We're getting the hang of

area!

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing and concern to new skills #2.

Example:
1. The space inside of the rectangle table is
what we called area of a shape.

width 2ft
length 3ft
“remember that the area of a shape is inside
the shape, so were going to solve and measure
the area of the shape using square unit”

So class how are we going to find the area of

the board if the length is 3ft and the width is
2ft (the teacher used their table as example),
to find the area of this shape we should first
identify where the length and the width is. Do
you know where the length and the width of
this shape class? Yes Teacher

Very good! So where is the length of this

board class, any volunteer to come in front
and show us where is the length of this board? Teacher ( raised her hand)

Yes clarence can you identify here infront.

(Clarence show us where the length of the
black board)

Correct, how about the width? Anyone? Oh

yes Mark.
(Mark show us where the width of the table)

Very good, so now let’s find the area of this

table, we have here a formula that we need to
follow which is the,

Area = length x width

Answer:
A= L x W
A= 3ft x 2ft
A = 6ft
The area inside the table is 6ft.

Example 2. How about this table (teacher

used his classroom table as example) if this
table has a length of 7 meter and the width is 8
meter again, to get the area of this table, what
are you going to do?

Yes Caryl.
Teacher multiply the length and the width
teacher
Very good!

Now, who wants to solve this , yes karyle

misha.

A=LxW
A= L x W A = 8meter x 8meter
A = 8meter x 8meter A =64 meter2
What is the answer class Teacher 64 meter2

Yes it is 64meter 2
Yes, Teacher
Do you understand class?

(the teacher will give word problem as

example)
Sarah wants to build a rectangular sandbox for
her kids. The length of the sandbox is 8 feet,
and the width is 5 feet. What is the area of the
sandbox?

In order for us to solve this word problem,

first we should use this five steps to solve it.
1. Find the given
2. Find the problem/what is asked? Yes teacher
3. Write formula
4. What is the operation to be use
5. Solving Teacher 5 feet and 8 feet

Understand class

So what is given in the problem?

Okay very good!

Given: 5 feet and 8 feet

Problem: what is the area of the sandbox?
Formula: Area = Length x Width
Operation : Multiplication
Solution:
A=LxW
A = 8 ft x 5ft Yes Teacher
A = 40feet
Final answer: The area of the sandbox is 40
feet.
Understand class?
Alright, class, let's talk about why we need to
learn about area, and why it's important to know
the area of things like tables.

Imagine you're having a big birthday party at

home. You want to set up a table for all your
friends to eat at. How many people can fit?
Knowing the area of the table helps us figure out
how many people can fit comfortably around it. If
the table is too small, some friends might have to
stand!

How much tablecloth do we need? If we want to

cover the table with a beautiful tablecloth, we
need to know how big the table is. We don't want
a tablecloth that's too small and leaves parts of
the table uncovered, or one that's too big and
hangs down too much
Yes teacher!
How much food can we fit? Knowing the area of
the table helps us figure out how much food we
can fit on it. We don't want to run out of space
for all the yummy snacks and drinks!

So, knowing the area of a table is really helpful for

planning parties, arranging furniture, and making
sure we have enough space for everything! Am I
right?

In addition in measuring the area inside the

shape, we can also determine the area by
counting the number of smaller, equal-sized
shapes that fit inside the larger shape.

For example: The black board with the length

of 3ft and width is 2ft.
