1. Organizing barbeques for families, child-dedication services or community picnics.

2. Making volunteering positions which can occur in the class or school events.

3. Offering sessions through which parents can learn different ways of assisting children in

their education at home.

4. Prescribing to parents the School committees or PTA.

5. As for flexibility of positions available for the parents, they provide diversified outlook of

the opportunities to be involved based on the skills.

6. Creating a schedule of announcing new information to families through newsletters.

7. About forming projects in class where family contribution or participation is required.

8. Scheduling conferences with parents and teachers as both parties have a say.

9. How the creation of accounts and use of technology can be used to enhance parent

involvement through class activities.

10. Parents can also be taken for special family days to come and watch lessons practiced in

class.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Parental Involvement

 For Teachers:

In their Classroom parents help teachers in their work since teachers are able to delegate some of

the Classroom activities or projects to the parents. There is enhanced communication among the

teachers, parents and the students because teachers also foster closer relationships with families.

However, the disadvantage of this method is that some parents may intrude or spike issues with

the teacher, which creates conflict or makes distractions.

 For Parents:

The interaction enables parents to have a clue on what their children are involve in school and

makes them to feel closer to what their children are learning. That also is why it can be beneficial

for the promotion of a sense of community. On the negative side some parent may feel they

cannot cope or contribute at all, Secondly time factor regarding home and work and class may

bring in stress.

 For Children:

Parents should be involved in the classroom because the benefits that children get are numerous.

For the reason, they may feel supported and secure and, therefore, manifest improved overall

academic and personal development outcomes. However, high level of parental involvement

might prove negative implications as a child feels embarrassed to be with peers or forced to

perform in front of his or her parents.

Ways Parents Can Be Involved

 Preschool Classrooms:

The use of parents in preschool class includes; volunteering to help with any manipulative or

artistic work, telling stories to the children or helping in offering of snacks and organization of

tidings. It will also allow them to sponsor field-sensitive programs or accompany children, or

offer supplies for art class or science fair designs.

 Elementary School Classrooms:

In elementary school classrooms, parents can provide help through acting as teachers’ aides,

proctoring small groups of students, or contributing to classroom assignment of events. During

the themed learning weeks, the students can also provide information about their career or

cultural experience.

Parental Involvement: Restrictions and Contributions

Each and every family should be participating in classrooms, although occasionally some parents

can be of detriment to the whole learning process thus need to be prohibited from participating in

the classification. Nevertheless, all families should be encouraged to contribute, because they

achieve certain participation in the classroom process.

For instance, a father who operates in construction line of business must also assist with his

knowledge during lessons relating to building or engineering. He could put together an organised

project for students and the project could involve the use of models or construction safety

amongst others.

Involving Diverse Parents in the Classroom

 New Immigrant Mother from Syria:

An immigrant mother from Syria can be engaged by asking her to give a little about her cultural

background, for instance, songs, stories, or foods that would open the classroom to the view of

different cultures. Here the teacher could make sure she does feel welcome by perhaps having

translated material, or by providing an interpreter.

 Mother of a Kindergartener with a Baby:

A mother of a kindergartener who has a six months old baby can be involved by participating

from home or can contribute in preparing materials for the activities or even providing ideas on

the project on hand. She can also meet with classes and attend class functions when it is

convenient for her or help with whatever is necessary in the classroom when convenient for her.

 Ways to Promote Parental Participation

There are specific actions and gestures that a helpful teacher should show towards parental

involvement for him/her to gain the clues parents are willing to offer: great communication style,

time suitability, and consideration towards the parents. Teachers should give advice on how

parents can be most helpful and should encourage parents to get more involved with their child’s

learning.
