• Until you have not received your PRC License, you are not
allowed by law to practice architecture services
• Even as a BS Arch student or graduate.. Do not guise under
the term “freelance” or “visualization artist”
• If clients are asking you to “design” or “conceptualize” for them, refer
them to a licensed architect to do the service for them; you may ask
the licensed architect if he/she can absorb you in their team so that
you can still be involved on that project under the architect’s
supervision.
• “if they cannot even afford the design fee, how on earth can they afford
the construction fee???” …don’t allow them to waste your time and
effort

• Accept that the ARCHITECTURE PRACTICE is a “long
progression” “an old man’s profession” “long learning curve”

• Option A: Immerse 2 yrs– choose who you want to be like
• Option B: 1 yr with 1st Mentor; 1 yr with 2nd Mentor

• As a Newly Passed Architect:
• Membership to UAP-IAPOA
• Php 600.00 (National Fee); Php ______ (Chapter Fee)
• (PRC oathtaking fee, etc. are separate payment)
• Membership to PIA, other orgs is optional
• Tax (PTR, BIR) – get a CPA; bookkeeper
• Professional Tax Receipt (PTR) - Issued by your City/Municipality Treasurer or
Provincial Treasurer Renewal every January of the year; Php 300.00 / profession
• Income Tax (ITR) – discuss strategy with your CPA – Monthly/ Quarterly
• Every PF for design / consultancy, issue a receipt
• Books incl withholding taxes is important to be submitted to BIR

• As a Newly Passed Architect:
• For 2 to 5 yrs, work with a seasoned architect mentor or
reputable company
• within your locality or nationwide
• Goal to become a partner of the firm or right hand of the principal.
• Gradually test the waters if you can handle projects on your own.
Start little by little.

• Pray, Seek and Meditate Your Calling;


• Are you a leader type of person? Or behind the scenes support?
Nevertheless, still try both roles.
• Try personality tests so that you can also determine your tendencies
and preferences
• Write down and know yourself; Pray for God’s calling to you on why
He has made you an architect – what is your purpose?

• Basic Salary
• Standard Salary Rate
• 8:00am - 5:00pm Working hours (tied)
• After 5:00pm you may not think about work anymore (no more stress)
• Work your way up the corpo ladder
• Understand how each job position within your company operates so
that you can work your way up
• Seek your calling on what specialization you will pursue:
• Contract management
• Project management
• Design and Planning Conceptualization
• Drafting and Design (CAD/BIM)
• Visualization (renderings), etc.

• 5 yrs as an Architect: START YOUR OWN FIRM
• 100% of profit is yours
• If you are the boss - Flexible working hrs – establish your firm culture
• 24/7 liability (stress if not handled well)
• Ability to personally handle finances – gains and losses
• FOR SPECIAL PROJECTS: (Seek a consultant)
• If it will be your first time to design a special facility – such as a health
care facility say level 1 hospital –hire a hospital design consultant to
partner with you.
• If it will be your first time to build a high-end residence on your own–
hire a mentor/consultant to oversee you throughout the
implementation to prevent pitfalls.
• Likewise with other building types or transactions. It will depend on
your confidence level. (beware of over confidence)
• Hoping on your 10th year you will start to see your fruits.

• Usually seeks high Level of Detail (LOD) of working
drawings prior to implementation (outsourced)

• Fast paced conceptual design process
• Working drawings – minimum LOD acceptable
for permitting and understandable for
implementation
• The Goal is to start the implementation work

• Backbone support of office drafters and designers
with close contact with project coordinator.
