MANUAL FOR PREPARATION OF BCA Minor Projects

(Prescribed Format and Specifications)

1. GENERAL :

The manual is intended to provide broad guidelines to BCA students in the


preparation of the project report. In general, the project report, in an organized and
scholarly fashion, is an account of original work of the students leading to
techniques or correlation of facts already known (analytical, experimental,
hardware oriented etc) and demonstrating definite contribution to the advancement
of knowledge and the student ability to present the findings in an appropriate
manner with actual accomplishments of the work plainly stated and honestly
appraised.

2. NUMBER OF COPIES TO BE SUBMITTED FOR EVALUATION:

BCA Report: One hard copies and one soft copy in CD are to be submitted to the
concerned department.

3. SIZE OF PROJECT REPORT:

The size of report should not generally exceed 40-50pages for BCA, reckoned
from the first page to the last page of the project report, printing on single side of
the paper.

4. ARRANGEMENT OF CONTENTS OF PROJECT REPORT:

The sequence in which the project should be arranged and bound should be as
follows:

(A) Cover Page : Specimen copy attached, Annexure – I, II, III for respectively.

(B) Inner Title Page (like cover page) specimen copy attached, Annexure – I

(C) Company letter signed with your respective guide of company.(if any)

(D) Student’s Declaration : specimen copy attached, Annexure – IV

(E) Acknowledgement : specimen copy attached, Annexure – V

Main Text of the project : The main text will be divided into several
chapters and each chapter may be further divided into several divisions and
sub-divisions. (Typed in font size 12 double spacing) e.g.
(i) Introduction
(ii) Objective
(iii) Hardware and software Requirement
(iv) ER Diagram
(v) DFD
(vi) Forms Design
(vii) Database Tables
(viii) Coding (If any one want)
(ix) Testing(if any one want)
(x) Future Scope
(xi) Conclusion

- Each chapter should be given as appropriate title. (Title of Chapter Font


size 16) division & subdivision (font size 14)
- Footnotes should be used sparingly. They should be typed single space
and font size 10 and placed directly underneath in the very same page,
which refers to the material they annotate.

● Table of Contents : The table of contents should list all material following
it as well as any material, which precedes it. The inner title page,
declaration and acknowledgement will not find a place among the items
listed in the Table of Contents but the page numbers in lower case Roman
letters are to be accounted for them. Single spacing (in Arial) should be
adopted for typing the matter in font size 16.

● List of Tables : The list should use exactly the same captions as they
appear above the tables in the text. Font size 16 in Arial in single spacing
should be adopted for typing the matter under this head.
● List of Figures : All non-verbal material used in the project report and
appendices such as charts, maps, photographs, diagrams will be
designated as figures. The list of figures should use exactly the same
captions as they appear below the figures in the text. Single spacing in font
size 16 in Arial should be adopted for typing the matter under this head.
● List of Symbols, Abbreviations and Nomenclature : Single spacing in
font size 16 in Arial adopted for typing the matter under this head. Standard
symbols, abbreviations etc. should be used.
● Abstract :One page abstract in double space, font size 12 in Arial should
be used.

5. PAGE DIMENSIONS AND MARGIN :


5.1 The dimensions of the final bound 2 copies report should be on standard A4
size (297mm X 210mm) of good quality white paper.
5.2 The project report (at time of submission) should have the following page
margins :
- Left Margin ..........................3.5 cm.
- Right, Top & Bottom Margin ..............2.54 cm.

6. LIST OF REFERENCES:
Any work of other researchers, if used either directly or indirectly, the origin of the
material thus referred in the report should be indicated within a square bracket at
the appropriate place Author’s name [reference such as 1, 2, 3 ect]. A paper, a
monograph or a book may be designated as detailed below in the example of
citation.

Example of citation :
Paper : Author’s name “title” Journal’s name Vol. (No.) page....... (year)
Monograph :Author’s Name, Title, Institution, Publisher (Year).
Book : Author “Title of Book” Publisher (Year)
In case of more than 2 author, name of first author followed by et al.
