Angle Addpost

The Angle Addition Postulate states that if a point S lies in the interior of angle PQR, then the measure of angle PQS plus the measure of angle SQR equals the measure of angle PQR. The postulate can be used to find the measure of unknown angles. For example, if angle DAB measures 65 degrees, and angle DAC measures 35 degrees, then according to the postulate, angle CAB must measure 30 degrees.

Angle Addition Postulate

What is Angle Addition Postulate ???

Angle Addition Postulate states that if a point S lies in the interior of PQR, then PQS + SQR = PQR.

More about Angle Addition Postulate If the sum of the two angles measure up to 90, then the angles are called to be complementary angles. If the sum of the two angles measure up to 180, then the angles are called to be supplementary angles. The angles sharing a common side are called as adjacent angles.

Example of Angle Addition Postulate

According to angle addition postulate , m D AC + m CAB = m DAB . So , m DAB = 35 + 30 = 65.

Test Yourself

FindmCAB.

[Given DAB = 64 and DAC = 53.]

So lu ti S on te mCAB =mDAB -mDAC ! : p 2 p

S te p 1

mDAC +mCAB =mDAB [Angle Addition Postulate.]

So lu ti S on te mCAB ! : p 4 p

S te p 3

mCAB

= 64 53 [Substitute.]

= 11
