Topic One Reflection
This week I was able to lead the high school professional learning community (PLC)
which focused on the importance of being a culturally sensitive practitioner. This experience
speaking with teachers through the years, I noticed that they had a narrow definition of what it
means to be culturally sensitive. Culture refers to a set of norms, beliefs, and traditions that shape
a person or groups of people. I have learned and am now helping teachers fully understand what
culture is and how it relates to student outcomes. I am truly grateful to have had this leadership
Administrators are not only school leaders, but they are also instructional leaders.
Moreover, I was able to help teachers shift their perspective regarding cultural sensitivity, which
will support the way they approach lessons and differentiate instruction. Cultural sensitivity has a
direct impact on how teachers approach instruction and are what drives instruction. Therefore, I
am certain this topic will be a consistent trend in education and one that I will have to support
my staff in developing.
Next week’s focus will be on ELCC Standard One: Vision as an Essential of Leadership
Development. The School Improvement Team (SIT), of which I am a part, will meet to discuss
the efficacy and fidelity of goals and review relevant data. I will use this internship activity to
