Assignment-2
1- Two smooth sphere P, Q each of radius 25cm and weighing 500N, rest in a horizontal
channel having vertical walls. If the distance between the walls is 90cm, make
calculation for the pressure exerted on the wall and floor at point of contact A, B and
C. Use figure -22. Ans- (666.66N, 666.67N, 1000N)

2- Two identical rollers each of weight 5000N rest on smooth inclined planes as shown
in figure- 18. Find the reactions of the planes on rollers.

3- A steel ball of weight 250N rest upon a smooth horizontal table. Two ropes AB and
AC are attached to the centre of the ball and pass over friction less pulley at B and C
and carry loads of 150N and 200N as shown in figure-5. If the rope AB is horizontal
find (i) the angle θ that the rope AC makes with the horizontal, and (ii) the pressure
between the ball and the table.
