DIFFERENT ADVANCEMENT IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

1. SEMICONDUCTOR CHIPS
The electric circuit with many components such as transistors and
wiring opened the door to the evolution of the laptop, followed
by the smartphone and tablet. It is a technical wonder in the palm
of a hand.

2. QUANTUM COMPUTING
The invention of the computer, and especially the personal
computer, will continue to shape our lives. In October
2019, it was announced that a quantum computer, which
uses quantum mechanics to massively increase processing
power, solved a problem that a standard computer
couldn’t in just 200 seconds, marking a new realm of
potential applications to explore.

3. AUTOMOBILE
Truly a vehicle for change: once the first car rolled off
the assembly lines, it never stopped moving. Originally
seen as a panacea for all mobility challenges, the car has
had to adapt to a global demand to eliminate fossil-fuel
use and decrease traffic. Enter the next generation:
hybrid cars, electric cars, and driverless cars, proving the
car will be with us for centuries to come. For example,
the Tesla autopilot will be the next generation in cars.

4. GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM

While cars accelerate our day-to-day life, getting from A to B
can still be a challenge, especially in a new place. First invented
in 1973, Global Positioning System (GPS) technology came on
the market in 1995. Using satellites, it pinpoints a location and
helps you navigate. More recently, it has been the cornerstone of
a host of smart city and urban mobility apps.
5. HUMAN GENOME PROJECT
No other modern advancement in science has
transformed medicine so radically as the Human
Genome Project. Completed in 2003, the HGP
mapped every gene in the human genome. It
opened the door to medical studies on genes
associated with diseases and led to a flourishing of biotech companies seeking to find new
applications in healthcare. It maps the DNA and paths to new medicine.

Conclusion: Living in today’s generation is a lot easier and convenient than the past generations
because of technology and the inventions that made our lives better. The modern technology has
a big impact in our daily lives, health, and economic growth. Up until now, there are a lot of
research and studies by inventors and scientists who continues to contribute for the betterment of
the world.

INVENTORS AND THEIR INVENTIONS

1. DR. LEONARDO M. GASENDO:

Long Distance Electric Vehicle (LDEV)
He is a US-based Filipino chemical engineer, added
another accomplishment to his growing list of patented
inventions when his latest innovation, the Long-
Distance Electric Vehicle (LDEV) self-charging
battery, was granted U.S. Patent No. 8,522,903 by the
United States Patent and Trademark Office on
September 3, 2013. The LDEV is just one of Dr. Gasendo’s various inventions over the years.
Many of his other patented inventions use natural and renewable resources like wind, ocean
waves, and even river currents.
2. ROLANDO C. DELA CRUZ: Cashew Oil
Creams
He is an award-winning Filipino scientist and
inventor. In 2000, he developed a patented
formula that allows the removal of deep
growth moles or warts. His formula was extracted
from the Filipino cashew tree (Annacardium
occidentale), which is common in the Philippines
and is known as “kasoy”. The cashew oil cream is
for removal of warts, liver spots, skin tags, xanthelasms, millia, syringomen and other skin
diseases. The non-surgical application is relatively painless and leaves no scars.

3. DIOSDADO P. BANATAO: 10-Mbit Ethernet

CMOS
He is a Filipino entrepreneur and engineer working
in the high-tech industry, credited with having
developed the first single-chip graphical user
interface accelerator that made computers work a lot
faster. This invention has allowed computer users to
use graphics for commands and not the usual typed
commands in older computers. It has allowed data processing to be a little faster using very little
space (small chips instead of large boards).

4. KIA SILVERBOOK: Memjet

He was born in 1958 and hasn't stopped inventing since. He
holds patents in a diverse set of fields, from digital music
synthesis to mechanical engineering. He is one of the most
prolific inventors in the world, and has been granted 4,744 US
utility patents as of 19 December 2017. He notably
invented Memjet, a high-speed color printing technology.
When Silverbrook first announced the technology in 2007, it
was so advanced that many thought it was a hoax.
5. GENE EDITING-CRISPR-Cas9:
American Scientists
It is the ability to make highly specific
changes in the DNA sequence of a living
organism, essentially customizing its
genetic makeup. It is performed
using enzymes particularly nucleases that
have been engineered to target a specific
DNA sequence, where they introduce cuts
into the DNA strands, enabling the removal
of existing DNA and the insertion of replacement DNA. Key among gene-editing technologies is
a molecular tool known as CRISPR-Cas9, a powerful technology discovered in 2012 by
American scientist Jennifer Doudna, French scientist Emmanuelle Charpentier, and
colleagues and refined by American scientist Feng Zhang and colleagues. The discovery has
the potential to eradicate diseases by altering the genes in mice and mosquitoes to combat the
spread of Lyme disease and malaria but is also raising ethical questions, especially with regards
to human gene editing such as for reproductive purposes.

DEFINITION OF SOCIETY
Society is an organization or group of people related and interacts with each other. It
consists of members that work together for the benefit of one another. A leader is responsible for
deciding what is best for society and its members. Rules are established and implemented to
build an organized and civilized society for the members to live in peace and harmony. An
individual may conform with what society tells and shows so it is important to build a healthy
and safe environment for the youth because they will become the future leaders of society.
